Quick Career
The departure of defensive tackle Jurrell Casey and offensive Tyron Smith to the NFL is not surprising. But Smith barely played his freshman year and barely practiced this season because of a sprained ankle. So he basically played on the two worst USC teams in the past nine years. And that's it. Off to the NFL.
Casey, on the other hand, was a major contributor from the outset and really had nothing left to prove. From a team standpoint, he got to play a key role in the Rose Bowl-winning team two years ago that went 12-1.

I wonder how Casey had progressed towards his degree. Or just another Poly player.
USC just lost its best DL and OL. Sorry to see them go.

Farts.
Kiffin/Orgeron's biggest "recruting coup" would have been retaining these 2 guys for next year. Let's hope this isn't a sign of things to come during the off-season (ie. more early departures/transfers).
It is interesting that neither one made the AP All-
American three teams just released. They would have gained more leverage in the draft by playing their senior year like Mike Patterson, Shaun Cody, Ryan Kalil, John Drake, and Deuce Latui. Linemen need all the experience they can get in college.
