Safety Pick
Safety Chris Conte of California was a first-team selection on the All-Pac-10 team. Why is this relevant?
Because four years ago, I told Pete Carroll that Conte seemed to be an impressive athlete and he looked lnterested. But Carroll wasn't interested. So Conte went to Cal.
He certainly would have been needed this season.

I guess the only question left is whether USC should hire Scott as a recruiter/assistant, or as the head coach.
D!ckwad, as a SC grad, aka booster, it is against NCAA rules to notify a coach about a prospective player. DOPE
Carroll didn't need to be interested 4 years ago in a cornerback who Cal eventually moved to safety. Carroll thought he had better-four years ago.
Wolf is an idiot...
Well lookie here. Scotty boy is a talent evaluator. Scotty how did you have DJ Shoemate elvaluated? How about Torrin Harris?
Why should they have taken a flyer on this guy, when the class before him had Taylor Mays (#1 safety in the country), Antwine Perez (#2 safety in the country) and Shareece Wright (#2 corner in the country)? Will Harris & Kevin Thomas were in the class before him. When and where would this guy have realistically played? At best he may have worked his way in this year... maybe.
Since you have become fond of pointing out guys that SC missed on 4 & 5 years after the fact, can you please try to post a few names from this class within a week or so of signing day? I would be curious to follow some of the diamonds in the rough that you have seen that SC has chosen to overlook.
Okay, even funnier, this kid's best statistical game came this year against SC. He had a great game. 16 tackles and, oh yeah, SC passed for 5 touchdowns in the first half.
I'm sure there are lots of these. Omar Boldin of ASU was only recruited by USC at the last minute. Burfict they didn't think they could get academically approved, but ASU did. Casey Mathews. Bottom line, most of these players probably wanted to come to USC, but for what ever reason SC or they decided different.
NOBS, you are dead wrong.
NCAA Bylaw 13.1.2.3 (http://www.ncaapublications.com/productdownloads/D110.pdf), which is the bylaw that deals with the contacts boosters can and cannot have, does not prohibit boosters from notifying college coaches of prospects that could be of value to the athletic program. It is the high school coaches that the boosters can't deal with in the recruitment process. Almost every major program publishes FAQs and Dos and Don'ts for boosters, and just about every one reminds boosters than one thing they CAN do is let the coaches know about prospects, including giving the coaches newspaper clippings and whatnot about guys they should be recruiting.
For example:
http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/usc/genrel/auto_pdf/08-usc-booster-broch.pdf
"What May Boosters Do?
...
You may bring outstanding prospects to the
attention of the USC coaching staff by sending
them newspaper clippings or other information
about prospects. However, you may not be
involved in the actual evaluation of talent. All
evaluations and contacts are the sole
responsibility of the USC coaching staff."
Oh, and it's not at all clear that Scott is a booster just because he graduated from the institution.
Next time you call someone a D!ckwad and a DOPE, try to at least be right about what you're saying.
baz, aka Scott Wolff, aka dopey dickwad, I would waste my time going through a NCAA manual. You must be really old or unemployed. First of all, SW does evaluations.....like everyday. Secondly, SW insinuates he , i.e. the player, is "interested". How does SW know that unless he talks to the kid about it. Next time, use YOUR brain. Dope #2
