Stanford's sold about 9,000 tickets for the Orange Bowl, which is a little more than half its allotment for the Orange Bowl.

It's nuts that Stanford isn't playing in the Rose Bowl or Fiesta. Conn in the Fiesta is a joke, both because they suck and nobody is going to come from Conn for the game. There was an interesting article in Yahoo a few months ago about how the only people getting rich from these bowls are the bowls themselves.

That's why they won't go to a playoff system, you think the bowls will give up their $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ ????

This is only going to add more fuel to the "PAC-10 schools don't travel well" campagne being thrown out by other conferences. And yet who's fault is it? the Presidents of the PAC-10 schools, 100%! I dare anyone to debate me on this...

Why does Scott Wolf lie, mislead and give stories without context all the time???????? Stanford has far outsold VA TECH, a football crazy school a quarter of the distance away!!! And it is ahead of what normal sales have been at this point for non-championship picture Orange Bowls. This from Jon Wilner who is normally Mr. Negative Nelly about things PAC 10 related.-

"As of the middle of the week, Stanford had sold approximately 9,000 tickets to the game, which represents more than half its allotment (17,500).

That’s important because the school was on the hook financially for 8,750 tickets, with the Pac-10 covering the cost of whatever went unsold from the other half of the allotment.

* The ticket sales for the Orange Bowl are triple what Stanford sold for the Sun Bowl, by the way.

(I’ve seen a lot of figures tossed about for the Sun, none of them accurate: Stanford sold a little less than 3,000 tickets to the game.)

* Of the 9,000 Orange Bowl tickets sold, approximately 1,000 have gone to students even though the game conflicts with the first day of winter quarter classes.

Apparently, the university asked professors to go easy on students who miss class to attend the game.

(Leniency for students attending a football game … $3 million per year for the coach … a massive increase in the salary pool for assistant coaches … a favorable admissions climate … all the university honchos heading to Miami for the game … Who says Stanford isn’t a football school!?!)"

TC: Stanford not in the Rose Bowl has nothing to do with UConn in the Fiesta. TCU is in the Rose Bowl due to a BCS rule, which with them in Pasadena now releases the Rose Bowl from choosing a non-AQ school over the next three seasons.

5Dollar......I know why, but it's wrong and stupid. They should try to put these teams where they'll draw better.
I Dig.......What this Yahoo article said was that the schools aren't making very much, and many lose, playing in the bowls. They thought that this will finally spur the school presidents to drop the bowls in favor of a much more lucrative playoff.
