Morning Buzz

USC defensive end James Boyd cleaned out his locker last week and is expected to transfer to another school. There was some question whether he would be on the roster this season if he remained at USC and sources said there were issues with strength coaches in offseason workouts.
He tried playing quarterback last spring but then moved back to defensive end.

  1. This is a guy I never could figure. I think he was a 4 star? Why denfensive end and not LB with his size? Is he too slow for LB? And why transfer? He’s obviously not going to play in the NFL. Why not get your degree from USC?

  2. maybe he doesn’t like living in the ghetto?

I think the kid could transfer to afghanistan and he would still be in a better area than South Central.

  3. He could walk on and start immediately for dem powder blue puff girls…

  4. This is getting ridiculously easy…..I hate to say it again…but, i told you so. Yet another in a SERIES of blue chip 4-5 star recruits jumping a sinking ship full of Rats, Druggies, liars, cheats, parolees, and eventual non-qualifiers. Pathetic, simply pathetic
Fight on Cheat on Sanction on TRANSFER ON, Stabber U!
    The Curse is upon you!

  5. We didn’t need him anyway. We want top players that want to compete and kick the crap out of Fucla. Let him go. Who cares? Loser.

  6. good luck to this kid! of course the trOXans jumped all over each other when he committed to Southern Cal and now he’s a “loser”.

does any question remain that Southern Cal trOXans have no class whatsoever??

  7. This “ghetto” angle is really offensive.

His departure is emblematic of what is wrong with our Trojans. Only at USC or schools like USC would a Tyler ever play ahead of a Bradshaw. Or a Boyd move to defense to try to play when the QB spot is awarded to a Barkley.

How many fine athletes will put up with the politics of playing behind well connected and heavily promoted inferior athletes?

For the record, Boyd’s far superior performance versus the heralded Barkley in their prep senior season opener is something every USC booster should be forced to watch. Boyd is a much better athlete and might have been another Steve McNair had USC been wide open to competition.

It is the politics in the USC system that accounts for why the most talented team in the Pac 10 gets rolled by teams who play hard and play together. The only team with equal athletes in the conference last year was Oregon and you may remember that 4th quarter.

When a program cannot find a role for a kid like Boyd, regular church member and popular teammate, you know the problem is not the kid. Its the program.
