Utah!

Utah plays SC at the coliseum, so I would presume that SC would be favored. I cannot see Utah winning the South without beating the Trojans.

I've heard ASU being picked favorite many times. ASU always managed to come up short and that is my expectation for this year. USC is going to be really good team. However, the NCAA still has more on their agenda and we can't win a conference title with all the black clouds in the air, sanctions, bowl game bans. Utah has all the motivations being in a new conference and all that. PAC-10 used to be USC and the 9 dwarfs. And honestly I still think the conference is mediocre, except USC, since Harbaugh left, Stanford will be down too. I do believe we will beat Utah at the Coliseum in September, but Utah has a good shot at the South title with all the motivation of proving themselves. Besides, if USC doesn't win it who else will?

This conference expansion is a great thing for UCLA. If the South does finish like this the Bruins can claim they finished two spots higher than last season.

I have seen Utah play this past year. Saw them get pushed around pretty good as a matter of fact. As for ASU, too many times they have been predicted to winning most their games, and then go down in flames. With the exception of a few years back in ther 1990's, they are probably the most under-achieving member of this league. Dennis Erickson has been a flop at ASU. Pretty much his offense has his QB chuck the ball down the field hoping a reciever will catch it.
Whoever has made these predictions, they have a pretty low opinion of the PAC-12!

Good thing we didn't add 4 teams to make the super conference as originally planned. Then the haters would have us 4-5 teams back in the south.

Utah did very well in a MWC that was, to many observers, better than the Pac-10, so I don't doubt that they can do well. However the Pac-10 teams are improved this year, and Utah loses a lot. The biggest question mark is Norm Chow's transition back to his old digs at Utah. It's inconceivable that he couldn't resurrect the offense at that school on the other side of town, given the advantages the last couple of years. I wish him success, just not TOO much success! I agree that Arizona State is overrated, but would also like to suggest that Arizona is underrated.
