BCS Title Vacated

| | Comments (29) |

The BCS formally announced today it was vacating USC's national title from the 2005 Orange Bowl victory over Oklahoma.
Here is USC athletic director Pat Haden's statement: "The BCS alerted us today that their presidents have voted to vacate USC's 2005 BCS Championship Game victory. This was not an unexpected outcome. We will comply with all requirements mandated by the result of this BCS vote."

Here is the statement from the BCS. I'll include the statement from BCS executive director Bill Hancock, even though I've had enough of his spin regarding the Fiesta Bowl and preventing a college football playoff.

BCS Group Vacates USC 2004-05 National Championship Following NCAA Denial of Appeal

The Presidential Oversight Committee (POC) of the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) today vacated participation by the University of Southern California (USC) in the 2005 Orange Bowl and the 2006 Rose Bowl, and also vacated USC's BCS national championship for the 2004-05 season, following a May 26 announcement by the NCAA that it had denied USC's appeal of sanctions imposed last year. As a result of the POCs decision, there will be no BCS national champion for the 2004-05 season.
``The BCS arrangement crowns a national champion, and the BCS games are showcase events for post-season football," said BCS Executive Director Bill Hancock. "One of the best ways of ensuring that they remain so is for us to foster full compliance with NCAA rules. Accordingly, in keeping with the NCAA's recent action, USC's appearances are being vacated.
"This action reflects the scope of the BCS arrangement and is consistent with the NCAA's approach when it subsequently discovers infractions by institutions whose teams have played in NCAA championship events."

Well well well, isn't the BCS the bigger man all of a sudden.

Still one of the best five teams in program history. Without Reggie even, was an incredibly exceptional group. No need to bother thinking about "what if" without Reggie....he wasn't illegally recruited to come to the school, truly decided to be a Trojan and played proudly after arriving. Just wish he was a much smarter young man.

You should feel lucky you still have a football team, with all the cheating that went on, USC was more deserving of the "death penalty" than SMU ever was.

F' em, it's still 55-19, there's no eraser big enough to wipe it away.

Hey Bruin Rob, your pathetic little school doesn't field a football team, does it?

You're right GNOSSOS, the score is still 55-19

The BCS may as well vacate every single title that hs been won, because you cannot possibly tell me that there was not one player on any BCS title team that did not receive an "extra benefit" somewhere along the line. You mean to tell me that Vince Young never got anything when he played at Texas? Or any player from Florida, LSU, Alabama, etc.? This is a complete joke! The events of that night are still fresh in every USC fan's mind....55-19 equals an complete ass-whoppin of the greatest magnitude.

USC is still the AP Champions for 2003 and 2004 seasons.

Also, what did Reggie Bush do before the 2005 Orange bowl game (and the 2004 UCLA game) that caused him to be ineligible? I understand why he was ineligible during the 2005 season, but why the last two games of the 2004 season?

Who cares! We're still AP national champs. The AP was crowning college football champs 70 years before the BCS existed and will be crowning champs 70 years after its gone.

uscmike, the NCAA's determination was that the deal between Bush's family and the agents went down at least by the beginning of December 2004 and that was when he became ineligible. For what it's worth...

Amusing little chaters! "Who cares?" Apparently, all of you SUCksters cared when Cheatey Petey hoisted the crystal football over his head and all of the SUC pro players slobbered all over it when it was passed around after tha game. Typical SUC sore losers . . . "We didn't want it afterall! We're stil champs! We are! We ARE! WE ARE!"

Drone on!

SUC (sic) in se malum est!

Guess what? All that still happened. Trying to tell me it didn't is what I don't care about. I saw it with my own eyes. So, yeah, I go ahead and try to invalidate it. We all know who was the best. I Bush not playing in that game wouldn't have mattered one bit btw.

For all the "cheating" we did, Bush sure didn't have a big game that day. Oh that's right everybody on the team was cheating. Cheat Cheat Cheat Cheat Cheat Cheat.

I wish we could hire Rik Neweasel, then everything would be alright...

"This was not unexpected". Well said Pat Haden. You sure are "fighting on" with that statement. Nice knowing you really have our backs when we are being attacked on all sides and it doesn't make you want to dominate for another 10 years (sic)!

WEB: My inside sources tell me that NOBS (my sweet lover) was banned by Wolf for some of his distasteful remarks. Even though he was my sweet lover, he did often get way out of line. Goodbye, NOBS, my sweet lover!

It will take a while for him to figure out to get back on this blog and come back as some new character, so expect a new dumb nasty jackass to emerge in a few weeks. Until then, Ahhh peace and civility!

No problemo ! No one, during their lifetime, other than we members of the University of Southern Varsity Football Family, will experience the indescribable exhilaration, the Pride of Total Dominance we felt during our seven year 6 - 1 BCS victory parade.

MG spelled it out like it is. These penalties were necessary to break up our stangle hold on the PAC-10 and the rest of the NCAA Football Nation. We beat the Hell out of the SEC. We beat the Hell out of the Big Ten and Big 12. Went East and hung VT out to dry.

We could not be beaten on the Field of Play. Too damn athletic, too damn intense, too damn EXTRAORDINARY!!!

13 - 1 vs ND and LA College. Our two rivals spent 7 years kissing our A**.

Thai, BR,C SOB, come ride with us. Trojan Dynasty II is just around the corner.

A Trojan for Life !!! Fight On !!!

Thanks, Ex-Cop. That jogs my memory, but still does not explain the vacating of the two wins from the 2004 season (including the Orange Bowl).

There was no proof that on or before the Oklahoma game that Reggie Bush HIMSELF had entered into any secret deal or received extra benefits. Lake may have had conversations with Bush's stepdad by that time, but not Reggie.

If Reggie did not know about his stepdad's dealings with Lake by the Oklahoma game (and there is no proof that he did), how is this any different than Cam Newton (supposedly) not knowing about his dad's offer that Newton would accept $180K to attend Mississippi State? (Indeed, Newton's transgressions are much worse, as it involved an allegation of getting paid to attend a school, as opposed to making a deal with a would-be agent. Plus, it was his father as opposed to a stepfather.)

@Jack, I'm there were many players that received extra benefits, the difference is they didn't get caught. You can thank Carroll for all the arrogance displayed by him and his players during the investigation, and while you're at it you can include your former A.D. Mr. "everyone wishes they were trOJans". Had they been more humble, and acted as if they actually gave a shit, maybe the NCAA would have been more lenient on them.

@USC mike, the Bush parents were already living in thet mansion, and his family had already received free hotels and travel to the USC road games, and on December 4th Reggie registered his car with the university.

@GNOSSOS, thank you, I accept that award.

@NOBS, I don't have a daughter, and even if I did I wouldn't have to worry about you anyways because you are f_ag, and you can't get it up anyways, how do I know that? your wife tells me everyday before and after I do her.

Explain to me a few things. One how would auburn consider themselves champs if in 02 and 03 they got beat bu SC. Second how does SC get a bcs game taken from them because they think a player cheated(not saying he didnt ) but they never had real proof, but they let ohio st play 5 players they know cheated! They know these players cheated but still let them play yet take a game away fro SC.No one can come up with an answer that does not stink up the hole place of money they would lose if those players did not play. So whos doing it for the money?
