Haden On Auburn

| | Comments (7) |

USC athletic director Pat Haden was asked if USC's BCS title should be vacated or award to Auburn. Here was his answer on the Mike & Mike in the morning radio show.
``That is a hard one. Auburn didn't play in the game. That's a very difficult one. I think, from our standpoint, we should vacate it. We did play with an ineligible player. I have no qualm with that. As to Auburn, they can make their own claim.''

Why does everyone discount Oklahoma? If the USC game didn't count then they're undefeated, they only dropped below Auburn in the post-bowl standings because of that now non-existant loss.

Does Auburn beating the regular #8 team by 3 points mean they would have beaten the #2 Sooners? They wouldn't have even been favorites to win vs. Oklahoma.

What else could Haden say? The question essentially validates the absurd notion of vacating the win in the first place so there's way to answer without spiraling into ridiculousness.

If USC was known to be ineligible in advance, Oklahoma and Auburn would have played and the winner of that game would have been champion. But that game never happened.

Why Auburn (#2 by virtue of not losing to Va Tech in the Sugar Bowl) is more deserving than Oklahoma (#2 until losing to "ineligible" USC in the BCS title game) just shows how stupid the whole conversation has become.

And to think that Auburn wants the #1 spot? Too about as funny as Chizik stating that Auburn, its alumni and boosters are innocent in the Cam Newton "pay for play" issue.

By using Auburn's assumptive claims, Texas couldn't have won the BCS Championship Game in January of 2006, because they didn't play anyone. That game was taken away from USC as well.

Auburn fans! Live with the fact that were #2 then. Be happy for at least a little while, while you still have the Heisman Trophy in your trophy case, along with the 2011 BCS Championship trophy. They will soon be shipped back to the H Trust and the BCS.

C'mon, only seven more Pac 10 teams need to be ruled ineligible and the bruins can hang another banner.

If we had known in advance that RB was ineligible,we could have called Gene Smith and Jim Delaney and petitioned the BCS/ncaa and stipulate that the Championship Game was a unique and special experience and then suspend Reggie for 5 games the following season.:)

Ex-Cop- Going into the Orange Bowl, USC wasn't ineligible to play. Only Reggie was. Had that been known, SC simply would've beaten the crap out of OU without Reggie. #21 had a monster of a game, as I recall.
