Haden On Cruz
USC athletic director Pat Haden spoke about the hiring of Frank Cruz as baseball coach:
``Frank Cruz is the kind of person we want working in the athletic department. He is a man of high character and integrity. As the season went along, the team played better. We finished seventh in the conference as opposed to 10th a year ago. If you look at the statistics, there was empirical proof that we were improving. The parents and kids love him. It is going to take us a while to get there since he inherited an awkward roster, but we think we have the right guy for the job. He is intent on proving us right.''
We're intent on watching Frank Cruz prove what you know, Pat Haden, when you could have brought in any number of better qualified coaches who would probably take a shorter time to build the program up. But then you would have a coach that might not ooodle over you like Frank will.

If Marc Tyler had been a Baseball Player, Coach Cruz would have shown him the door. Kiffy and Tyler are both Skanks.

Sure Cruz was a major improvement over Kreuter which was not too hard to accomplish. Improved six games over last year in the conference which was a big plus yet finished six games under .500 for the season getting swept three times by Rice, Fullerton and Arizona and for two game series by Irvine, UCSB,and CSULB. The last two losses at home to Wazzu by a combined 23 to 3 score was a disgrace when two victories would have put them in fourth place. That kind of shoots the theory of Haden's comment of the team playing better at the end.
Frank Cruz can't manage a meat market. Look at his record at Loyola. Had some talent there, too (Billy Traber, Mike Schultz). C.J. Wilson said his most miserable year in baseball was the year he spent under Cruz. Wait till next year, when Cruz reverts to his control freak form. How about his four-pitchers, four-pitches strategy vs. UCLA this year? He's Abner Halfday. And when is Haden going to listen to some of the alums who played here and know what it really takes to get this program back on its feet?
