the Cadre favorite? Healy's last years coincided with the Bruins glorious 7 straight year win streak over southern Cal, and after the last few of those he would play the "Deflating Southern Cal fight song", followed immediately by the flushing toilet sound bite. pure genius

This is what I remenber about Healy and allthough his show had an anti-USC bias that didn't affect my opinion.
I had heard the buzz for years but never listened to the show. At some point in the '80s I'm working at a place where the boss listens to a radio station that plays old music from Glenn Miller and the like all day but Healy comes on in the afternoon. I'm thinking now I get to hear what everyone is talking about. What a dissapointment - it's a guy playing the same handfull of marginally amusing sound bites to death. He would also nitpick the local sportscasters of the day over little mistakes they made on the air and all the while he was doing the exact same thing. He would wrap up the show with somethong like "That's the complete sports picture" and i'm thinking no it's not, that was twenty minutes of drivel.
I swear it was like The Emporer's New Clothes. Nobody had the nerve to speak up and say "hold on, this is a bunch of crap". If the sports bigshots of the day were enamored like you claim they should have known better.
