Less Serious Infractions?

It doesn't take a mind-reader to see that the NCAA hates USC. Where the Trojans had an off-campus issue with Reggie, here several OSU players made money off their tickets and memorabilia and get a slap on the hand. Auburn has their top player's father holding an auction for his son's enrollment, and Auburn gets away scott-free. I'm sure Oregon will be totally exhonorated. I guess the NCAA figured Pat Haden is a consilitor rather than taking the NCAA to task. It's sad to see that the governing body of college sports and it's not up to the challenge.

I will wait until after the infractions committee makes its final decision and reads its findings & consequences if any. Then I will react. I think the NCAA will feel obligated to add some sanctions like scholarship reductions.

@dtksr1 the thing is that the charges are weak and they did not get charged with either of the two big ones: failure to monitor or LOIC. They can add more charges at the hearing but according to reporters that rarely happens. So with the charges it's looking like tOSU will only get probation and a handful of schollies. If that happens Haden better do something other than kiss the NCAAs feet like he's been doing.

Once again, I'd like to remind readers that a lack of investigative reporting and an absence of uproar from the local media is partly to blame for USC getting totally and completely screwed by Paul Dee and his triple freaking chin, Missy "lick me some balls and call it a day" Conboy, and the rest of the NCAA gestapo. We all know that the punishment did not fit the "crime" and that punishment such as was doled out to USC was not only unprecedented, but will probably never be seen again – but why wouldn't the NCAA do what they did? If they pulled this crap in Tuscaloosa or Columbus, the reporters would be all over them like white on rice.

They know that even the LA reporters (like the fans) have better things to do than to chase down leads and act professional. Lev, he's probably out surfing. Dufresne, he's probably scouting for Lakers groupies. Wolf, he's probably counting the days until his court ordered injunction and restraining order from Cheryl Cole expires.

The NCAA does what it does because it can. There's no oversight and in the case with the LA media and Pat Haden, there's no push back. Just a bunch of cowardly lions willing to take in the pooper.

I really don't know why anyone would be surprised if the NCAA slapped the wrist of the Buckeyes compared to the sanctions USC got. Reggie and his family received over $600.000 in cash and benefits...the school knew of Reggie's car and did nothing...Pete Carroll knew of Reggie's family getting free rent in a mansion, and did nothing...a coach knew of Reggie's relationship with those SCummy agents, and participated in their actions (parties, clubbing)...and during the investigation Pete Carroll never once did a thing to show any remorse or anything to quiet down, or tone his arrogance down a notch, and their Athletic Director was even more arrogant then the coach!! the NCAA felt Pete Carroll, and Garrett were laughing their ass off at them, just because USC made millions for the NCAA they felt they owned the NCAA, just like they own the L.A.P.D. and the judges.

Why did it take four years for the hammer to finally come down? very simple, USC was still making money the NCAA, so why send their "cash-cow" to the slaughter house? With the deterioration of USC (after losing 4 games) and the emergence of Alabama, Florida, Texas, Boise State, etc., USC was no longer the primary cash-cow for the NCAA.

Ohio State fired their coach upon learning of the the players violations. Selling your Jerseys and other stuff to Buckeye fanatics is very different than USC allowing a player and his family to do whatever he pleased. Had USC fired Carroll, USC would have never been dealt the punishments they got.

The NCAA will protect its Golden Goose (Big 10 & SEC TV Contract Revenue) at all costs. Wouldn't be surprised if Oregon gets whacked. LSU got a little slap on the wrist recently, with credit for time already served. As Tark the Shark once so aptly said "The NCAA is so mad at Kentucky they put Cleveland State on Probation".....
