And here's the Yahoo story on Miami that probably makes Paul Dee squirm a bit.

Wasn't stupid Goatboy Kiffin doing the same things at Tennessee ... shame SC was dumb enough to hire the idiot. The troubles he would have had at Tennessee. At USC Goatboy Kiffin will only lose a lot and get fired.

I just read the entire article, and what a story.

Too bad these revelations didn't come out 18 months earlier, it could have had a softening effect on the sanctions levied against SC. But, alas, it comes too late.

So what do they now do with Miami?-- It should be interesting.

The entire "amateur" college facade should undergo a major face-lift. Perhaps a minimum stipend should be paid to these players, many of whom go to college stone-broke.

the NCAA membership needs to call for a quorum and dissolve the wretched homeowner's association. obviously, no one can connect the dots, so i'll try. Wasnt Dee one of the clowns on the panel that punished USC?? Yes, he was. hmmm. and there was a rep from Notre Dame, too. these kangaroo courts shouldnt be tolerated by the most powerful schools in the ncaa membership. what is the ncaa teaching any of us? justice delayed is still justice? make arcane rules and apply them sporadically and punitively? they have overstepped their bounds. what is their purpose? what do they do that cant already be done by the membership?

finally, why exactly was Iron Mike wrong in his assessment of the ncaa??? these recent revelations prove one thing: the ncaa is crooked. shutter the bureacracy. let each school decide what is best.

I read the story, and it's a story similar to Auburn's and Ohio State's $100 hand shakes. But I read nowhere on there that says Miami U knew of the players receiving benefits...so how does this compare to USC? it doesn't! unless a Miami player got a pimped out car and registered it with the university, as Bush did - or unless the booster has a recorded conversation with the Miami coach in which the coach is telling the booster to have all the "paperwork straight" to make sure his star player's parents and family are living the high life in a free mansion as Bush's parents had...or unless one of the RB coaches is pictured with the booster as McNair was with the agents that Bush screwed for an equivalent of $600,000 YOU CAN NOT compare this case to USC's...we're talking apples and oranges here folks!!! so STOP this foolish comparisons!! that's an order!!! have a nice day.

BruinRob,

I assume you are joking in saying Miami's situation is less of a violation than USC's.

USC's penalty was basically because they were deemed that they should have known of the Bush family benefits and lacked institutional control because they didn't. There was no evidence anyone did know anything, except for possibly McNair, and that is questionable. You will probably disagree and say that Carroll knew, but there is no evidence of this in the NCAA report no matter what you say.

Miami had a booster that everyone knew right up to the President of the University herself and he gave all sorts of gifts and benefits to over 70 players. Many assistant coaches were deemed to have known about the benefits. Even if they didn't, don't you think there might have been a little institutional control problem here.

Miami will be lucky to avoid a death penalty.
