Arkansas Flashback
That last series of the Syracuse game reminded some of the 2005 Arkansas game. There was some controversy in that one as USC had reserve quarterback Michael McDonald throwing touchdown passes with a 63-17 lead and less than two minutes in the game.
At the time, offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin said it was OK because Arkansas had its first-team defense in the game.

Also, the 2005 game ending was to send a little message to the SEC, with Arkansas saying before the game that USC has just another average SEC team.

In these situations, I ask myself, "What would Jim Harbaugh do in the Coliseum?" And then anything short of buggering the other team's cheerleaders is fine.
Records are meant to be broken. When you're in front of your home crowd, and have a chance to break a record, you have the right to go for it. I actually agree with Kiffin, if the other team has their first-string in then they haven't really given up yet.
If Arkansas had their bench players in I'd still be okay with it in that situation. With McDonald throwing it's just bench vs. bench. It's not like the Arkansas players who finally see the field want to sit and watch 'SC take a knee three and out.
