Watch Arizona disect the SC defensive backfield while Monte Kiffin sits there in the tampa 2 all game long! Its going to be a long season folks with Arizona, Stanford, Washington, Oregon just foaming at the mouth in playing this antique defense. We're looking at 7 & 5 at best.

The Tampa 2 or Cover 2 defense is not an antique defense. However, I agree with you when trying to defend the spread offense. The Cover 2 becomes the Cover Who defense in the spread. I don't know why USC does not line up on Oregon (super spread offense) like LSU and Auburn, el Mano, El Mano. We should match up well with Stanford, until the Tree goes into its spread which is somewhat of a power spread with three tight ends.
Jay#42, my issue with all this is Monte Kiffin is determined to use his NFL defensive schemes on college offenses like Oregon, Arizona, ASU that are unNFL like. If SC were in the SEC or the BIG-10, then yeah you could set up in a tampa 2 all day long. But the PAC-12 is not a run-run-pass conference. You watch the backers, DBs & safeties scurrying around trying to match up with the offensive set to cover everyone. Zone play on these multiple offenses is nothing more than a preventative defense allowing the offense to march up & down the field. Where are the blitzes, the rushes and the interceptions? The other teams are throwing throwing throwing against Monte's defense and there is a reason why.
But did he have that Steve Clarkson touch?
