What Really Happened?

| | Comments (15) |

After talking to a lot of people this week, we confirmed that Lane Kiffin was aware quarterback Matt Barkley tied a school record with five touchdown passes and wanted to break the record on that controversial pass attempt with less than a minute to go against Syracuse.
Kiffin thought Barkley might not have another chance this season to break the record. So he decided to call a pass. One source said the pass was originally supposed to go to Barkley's cousin, wide receiver Robbie Boyer. Barkley was sacked on the play.
For some reason, Kiffin decided after the game to say a run for Curtis McNeal was called but assistant coach Justin Mesa signaled the wrong play. That's two lies in one statement.
However, if you look at the replay, Barkley comes to the huddle after the timeout and you do not even see any signals.
Barkley said it was a pass play from the beginning. So here's the lesson: When Lane Kiffin says one thing and Matt Barkley another, believe Barkley.

Kifin is a liar, period. He should have gone into politics, he can lie better that most of them, throw people under the bus, he's incompetent in his job position, he seems to be like Teflon, nothing that he does sticks to him.

Wolf, this may not seem like a big deal to many, but it is a big deal in the grand scheme of things, so keep on pursuing this. This incident is indicative of Lane Kiffin as a person. If you look at his life, he has had very few bumps in the road. He basically went from a grad assistant to offensive coordinator at a big time football school in a very short amount of time. Then he was named head coach of the Raiders at 33, then he lands at another big time football school, Tennessee, before coming to SC. In a five year span that is quite a resume for a coach under the age of 40. The one thing that stands out about Kiffin is his arrogance. Kiffin is the one who would argue with Norm Chow on a daily basis when they worked together at SC. Last time Chow has accomplished a lot more than Kiffin will ever hope to, so maybe Kiffin should have kept his mouth shut and his ego in check during that time. Ultimately in that case, Pete Carroll should have told Kiffin the same thing.
Kiffin is one of these people who is a self-absorbed ego maniac who simply cannot deal with the fact that he makes mistakes. There have been two instances when this has been shown to the public; the first was after the Minnesota game where he threw his entire team, except for Barkley and Woods, and now this, when it was clear who made the play call. If Kiffin would just admit that he made the play call to get Barkley the record then this would be a non-story. Keep lying Lane, and this will never go away. All of this makes me seriously doubt that Kiffin is the man who can lead this program to where it needs to be, among the nation's elite football programs.

mole hill ... MOUNTAIN.

Others have reported Kiffin was joking when he said that Mesa called in the wrong play. Scott just likes to stir the pot.

3 Things

1. Monopoly you are a clown and your schtick is boring the hell out of everyone else on this board. Calm down or shut up. Also, pleaes learn how to use a period once in a while. Your sentences read like a Ritalin deprived moron. Commas are not replacements for periods. (I'm also now 90% sure you didn't go to UCLA because even though their football program sucks their academics aren't half-bad and you are clearly an idiot who couldn't get into a 4-year college if they left the gate open.)

2. We are still discussing this? Who cares? 90% of college coaches would have gone for the record in that situation. Why is this still an issue? Matt Barkley stuck by the program through the most difficult times. He's being punished for something he had no part of and there's no bowl game at the end of this season for him. Why shouldn't he leave with a few records in his pocket? LET IT GO!!

3. You went back and broke down game tape to watch this non-issue but you've clearly never actually re-watched a game for anything else? Get your priorities straight Scott. You're paid to cover the football program, not to make up stories about stuff no one cared about past 30 minutes after the game ended. Geezus how long can you keep this up? WHy has no one FIRED you yet?!
