Halftime Warning
Be aware that the Stanford home game means band director Art Bartner will resurrect his dreaded ``countermarch'' halftime show, which is meant to ridicule the Stanford band. It loses its punch, however, when it's been used at every USC-Stanford home game since at least 1981.
Not a great sight especially after USC alum Ken Dye showed Bartner how to add some energy to a band when he directed the Notre Dame band last Saturday.

Be aware that the Stanford home game means sports writer Scott Wolf will sink the quality of the Daily News further with his dreaded "fruity" blog post, which is meant to ridicule those who still read newspapers that opt not to bring any form of journalistic talent onto staff. It loses its punch, however, when it's been used every day on Inside USC and Inside UCLA.
Not a great sight, especially after the Daily News sports editor (undeserving of being named) continually applauds his section as being reputable throughout Southern California.
Hahaha I love the countermarch! Fight on!
Decide for yourself if ND's 80's show was more "energetic" than USC's modern show, including LMFAO/Jay-Z/Lady Gaga.

Yes, but is the band wearing black socks? That's what people really want to know.
It is my favorite halftime show and nothing Scott says will ever change my mind.
Now you're getting on the band's case? Geez, Wolf - why don't you go find the "Inside USC" scoop on the Baxter situation? THAT would be useful!
A band rant? Really? Are you freaking serious?...Oh, wait, of course because it's Scott Wolf. What a flipping joke. NEWSFLASH Wolf: halftime is for taking a piss, refilling your drink, grabbing something to eat and hawking USC chicks...unless you are a dweeb, dork, loser freak who actually knows anything about what the "show" was while you were away doing all the afore mentioned above. WHAT A TOOL.
Are you really putting down the TMB twice in one post? Notre Dame has nothing on the TMB. And the Stanford countermarch is amazing.
the countermarch blows, but then again...what would USC fans know about a good marching band....
Count me in as one who loves the band. There is nothing quite like a 100+ person ensemble blowing music at you. It is a blast, and quite frankly, a unique music experience. And noone does it better than the SC band.
Now, if they would only stop playing Conquest 30 to 50 times a game, I would be happy
Scott Wolf realizing that he is being petty with his criticism of the TMB, then tries to make a joke under his pseudonym (Rewind) that goes over as well as a fart in church.
memo to all Nattering Nabobs: water covers 2/3 of the Earth, wolf covers the rest.
this post just serves to illustrate that there is no detail too small, no news too obscure, no secret too tightly held, that Scooopin' Scottie does know aaaaaaall about it!!!!
so shut up your mouths!!!! and enjoy.
Sorry, Scott, but USC's Lady Gaga and Jay Z won by a wide margin over ND's Bon Jovi and Toto. Also, as I told my ND friend at the game, had USC pulled that Crazy Train garbage at the Coliseum, the drum major's sword would be coated with the blood of the person running the sound board.
Meanwhile, the Stanford band will re-enact "What's your deal?".
Couldnt agree more! Everything associated with Bartner is old and tired. He still has them play "hits" from Chicago and Earth, Wind and Fire for crying out lound. At one game this year, he had them do a Beatles medley. You couldnt even tell what songs they were!!
I too am sick of the countermarch. Yeah Art, we get it, youre trying to show us all that having a wild band is nothing special and that the same old boring BS is just as entertaining. Well youre wrong. Im no fan of the Trees, but I at least give their band credit for being "fun".
Stanford band is overrated. I heard they aren't making the trip to the coli. Busy doing something called "Occupy Westwood"...
Datrout got it right...
I always enjoy the stanford band - they don't take themselves too seriously and seem to have fun out there. Wonder what costumes they will wear this year? A few years ago it was Xmen.
Plus we'll get to hear thinly veiled jokes about OJ or Reggie Bush.
For one game a year I'll take that over hearing Tower of Power, War and Hoobastank or Disturb'd or whatever crap song they play.
@Lawyer John
The band plays Conquest during pre-game, when we score a touchdown, and win we win the game. I don't think we're scoring 30 to 50 touchdowns per game.
Perhaps you are confusing it with Tribute to Troy which is played on the sideline while the band waits to go on for pre-game, during pre-game, and on every good defensive play. (The great defensive plays get Power instead of Tribute.)
Or maybe you're confusing it with Fight On, which gets played during pre-game and every time we score. Plus, just the 3rd chorus of Fight On is played every time we get a first down.
USC 89' got it right, Bartner was a tired old fart in the 90's with no original material then. I remember Stanford's band forming a phallus on their field during the halftime of a USC game years ago, got them suspended for a game or two if I remember right.
Hey WolfSh**,
The L.A. Times has singled you out twice this week as the moron who keeps voting Boise State #1 in the AP poll. Unfortunately for you, you are also likened to a regional buffoon. I hope your bosses are duly embarrassed by your recalcitrant idiocy. Nice work Wolf.
