USC coach Lane Kiffin worked for Cal coach Jeff Tedford and they share one thing in common as Tedford resumed playcalling duties this season.
``If you want to know why their offense is so good it is because Jeff Tedford is calling plays again,'' USC defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin said.
Interestingly, Tedford said in the summer he did not want his offensive duties to make the defense feel slighted.
``I don't want to be one-sided where I'm not providing any motivation or anything for the defense,'' Tedford said. ``I want to make sure the defense understands I'm with them as well.''

Scott, do you ever talk to the players themselves when doing your reporting?

Why would a DC at a elite football school make a idiotic statement like that? Look at Cal's schedule, Monte. Tedford might be available as a OC next year, Lane. Three and three...or Ricky might be, too.

These comments are mostly for us posters to read. Scott has said numerous times he rarely reads the comments sections. So I say to other SC fans, Monte Kiffin is here and maintains his stubborness in his defensive calling because he can. Lane Kiffin will continue to be offensive coordinator & head coach but always defend his father.... because he can. As long as the team plays it's butts off for pride & determination despite having "most" of this coaching staff not providing what other top programs give their players, keeps this situation intact. I hope as I am sure you hope, we are seeing the worst of all this and things will turn around. Things could be worst... this could be Dan (tiny) Guerrero & Slick Rick.
