Better than the Bruins...
Wow seems like i've been saying those words a lot lately....
I don't know what the percentages are for the Bruin football team, but I can assure you that none of the players are majoring in Ballroom dancing...in fact I can assure you that NONE of the players even have that class. Funny, 2 weeks ago in the USC football show, John Jackson interviewed Marquis Lee and asked him what his favorite class was, and yup, you guessed he said "Ballroom Dancing". I'm sure many of you watched it, and you were waiting for me to comment on it. Hell, if you can graduate from a major in Ballroom dancing, you got a serious problem.
Wow Bruin Slob, your intellect truly amazes me. Here is a little geography lesson for you. USC and UCLA are both located in Los Angeles, which happens to be the entertainment capital of the world. Therefore, it is a given that BOTH schools would offer dance as a major. Ballroom dancing is most assuredly offered as a class in the dance curriculum. Just because a football player takes this class does not mean that said football player is majoring in dance. If you are referring to Matt Leinart taking one ballroom dance to class in order to graduate from USC, I'm sure that this was apart of his overall degree program, due to the fact that ALL STUDENTS are required to take 3 credits of physical education at EVERY UNIVERSITY.
The fact that you have never been a competitive athlete at any stage of your life, it is easy to see why you would make such an asinine comment. When you are in season, it is a natural to ease up on your academic load due to the fact that you are spending many hours practicing, going to meetings, etc., while in the off-season you would take much more difficult classes. Aside from that, if Marquise Lee chooses to major in dance, which is his first amendment right according to the Constitution of the United States of America, how is that a bad thing? And how is that negatively affecting you?, other than the fact that he goes to USC. If he was going to FUCLA would you be making the same claim? If you want to take a look at the academic accumen of football players, take a look at Billy Don Jackson's academic record. Billy Don was a linebacker at FUCLA in the late 1970's who was a FUNCTIONAL ILLITERATE!
Lastly, before you get all high and mighty about the USC football team graduation rate, it does not take into account the number of football players who leave early for the NFL. Nor does it take into account the number of football players who leave early for the NFL and come back and earn their degree. The last time I checked there were not too many FUCLA football players who have been leaving early for the NFL.

USC's School of Theatre offers a minor in dance. Across town, UCLA offers a dance concentration for students majoring in World Arts and Cultures: http://www.wac.ucla.edu/undergraduate.php. Serious problem?
Does it surprise you that universities offer courses in the performing arts? Makes me wonder if you attended UCLA, or any college for that matter.
USC (and UCLA?) players might take intro dance courses, but I doubt any of them pursue it much further. They lack the time and, in all likelihood, the skill.
Also, why does someone named "BruinRob" watch USC's football show? As a Bruin fan, that makes you even more of a loser than merely posting (regularly) on a rival's sports blog.

And, even crazier is that some football players, particularly at skill positions, actually take dance classes because it helps them with their footwork.
With that said, I'll now wait for BruinRob to make mention of genitalia.

BruinRob, has it occurred to you that Brother Marquise might find that ballroom dancing class is a fine way to meet classy young ladies? I don't know what that has to do with the First (or any other) Amendment, but I do believe in First Things First!
The difference MIGHT BE between the two local schools that UCLA student athletes do not get any special favors when it comes to admission standards. UCLA has the toughest admission standards in the nation among the public universities and the third highest overall behind ND and Stanford. I guarantee you that if UCLA made exceptions - which I wish they did - we would not be 3-4 right now...at UCLA you are a student first athlete second, at USC it seems to ME you are an athlete first and a student second...it's all I'm saying people, don't hate the messenger!!!
Besides, I thought all you ladies were going to ignore me, what happened? I guess your word is as good as NOBS' when he bet last year that if UCLA would beat Texas he would leave this blog, and she is sill here...
Moron, suck it!!....How Does, lick it!! NOBS keep licking your dogs schlong, until How Does gets there with his jar of K Y Jelly.
Jack, nice try, Billy Don Jackson, whom I don't remember, he was before my time, but I'll take your for it, you seem like a good passionate USC fan, unlike these bitchy ladies on these blogs, but remember the 1970s is a looooooong time ago, things change.

Among local universities, UCLA had a GSR among all athletes of 83% — slightly above the national average — with football coming in at 59% and men's basketball at 75%.
The athletes' graduation rate at USC was 78% with football at 61% and men's basketball at 38%.
Amazing, the 71% for football....The 38% figure for basketball is about right (remember Dumber than a sack of Hammers, Davon Jefferson, dumb bell Danny Hackett?)..oh those were (AND STILL ARE!) THE DAYS.

UCLA does give special favors to athletes when it comes to admissions -- the so-called special admits.
Just because your (ucla) student athletes COULD get in on the basis of their academics (technically rising above the low bar set) doesn't mean they WOULD get in on the basis of their own academics.
How many of ucla's hold a 4.13 GPA (barely the 25th percentile of enrollees) and scored 1780 (also the 25th percentile of enrollees) on their SAT? The short answer would be just a teeny-tiny percentage.
Most of ucla's recruits wouldn't even sniff admission if not for their athletic abilities so to come here and get all sanctimonious with your "UCLA student athletes do not get any special favors when it comes to admission standards" is asinine. Look at the players on your team... they're not a bunch of brain surgeons out there. And tell me all these players ucla had to turn away because they didn't qualify for your "tough admission standards." When I look on Rivals or Scouts Inc I see ucla as a possibility for tons of recruits. The problem for ucla is, the recruits understand that Westwood is not a good place to go play football so they all decide to sign with USC.
You're not bad because you're too smart, you're bad because you don't have enough talent and your coach is terrible. Think about that.
@sureshot, good points, however you are posting as a biased USC fan, so your point of view is all good for you and USC fans. However, you should know, and I'm sure you already do know, a school is not going to announce the names of the student athletes who did not qualify academically. Most recently, DeAnthony Thomas, yes him! UCLA stopped recruiting him after he did no pass the minimum required tests, UCLA simply said, "we are no longer actively recruiting him" another guy is Desean Jackson, who wanted to attend UCLA, same thing, how do I know this? - I'll throw a NOBS in here - a close source revealed it to me...does the name Eric Weddle ring a bell? He always wanted to be a Bruin, he's another player UCLA stopped recruiting him, he went on to UTAH and started ever game and played every position on the team with the exception of the OLine.

ucla saves face by saying they stopped recruiting an athlete, because the kid put Rick Neuheisel's phone # on the federal do not call list.
rather than face a $10,000 fine for each time they call the kid, ucla says they stopped recruiting the kid, and then throws the 18 year old under the bus by saying he didn't have the grades.
A close source revealed to me that DeAnthony Thomas was offered more money by Oregon than USC was willing to pay. It's true, a close sourse revealed this to me.
