USC v. UCLA

| | Comments (31) |

In today's installment, it is worth noting that whoever UCLA hires as its next football coach, it is important not to make a snap decision on whether it is a good or bad hire. Remember there was an outcry against Pete Carroll when he got hired.

Hello everyone!!! it's that time again!!! check this out, per the NY Times...UCLA is the TOP PUBLIC UNIVERSITY in the World, and #11 overall while USC is #76. http://www.nytimes.com/imagepages/2011/10/20/education/20iht-SReducEmploy20-graphic.html?ref=education

is that awesome, or what??

Go Bruins!!!

RuinBob,
.
You can trot that out, but all anyone cares about is the US News rankings. World rankings are based on reputations, mostly old, and the bRuins sure to fall as the tax payers put the squeeze on a university system that needs to do a lot more fundraising from their cheap alumni.
.
I do agree with you. Go bRuins. Make more duck fans cry. How will your AD look after firing a Rose Bowl bound bRuin team with "insert small college, washed up NFL name here" as the head coach in waiting.

BruinRob Author Profile Page said:

scidiot - correction: US News is ALL YOU USC fans/alumni care about, because is THE ONLY place in which USC has UCLA beat by ONE stinking SPOT, out of dozens of rankings.

UCLA football will be fine, and hopefully playing in the Rose Bowl, so things aren't as grave as you and the other here are trying to make it seem for your own convenience...but thanks for your concern, idiot, very sweet of you. :)

"SCIdiot" is correct. The Emerging survey is among the least useful indicators of university performance. It simply polls international CEOs and asks them about their recruiting practices. In this regard, the larger student population of UCLA, its international student population, and its old-timey reputation work strongly to its advantage. University perceptions among international CEOs aren't terribly useful, which is why the Emerging study isn't frequently cited.

Regarding Scott's original point, I think the point cuts both ways. While I remember the outcry against Pete Carroll, I also remember the fanfare for Rick Neuheisel when he was hired, particularly when he was able to retain Karl Dorrell and bring in Norm Chow.

Speaking of convenience, how convenient was it for you to brag about fucla being ranked higher than usc in the usnews and world report only to discount that publication once usc surpassed ucla in their rankings several years ago? Anyway, scidiot is right in that the vast majority of Americans only rely on the usnews and world report for college rankings. Like most Americans, I've never even heard of those "world rankings" until you brought it up.

"It's funny -- ever since USC surpassed UCLA in the U.S. News & World Report rankings, there's been an edginess among the Bruin faithful. We have always maintained athletic dominance, and now that we have academic superiority, you just feel sorry for people who have anything to do with UCLA." ~ Will Ferrell

Also, remember that there has been about two years of outcry against Lane Kiffin. As a USC fan, I don't much care who UCLA hires or is able to hire beyond how it affects my ability to taunt UCLA fans. It's simple, morbid curiosity and nothing more. I've been around when UCLA was a real powerhouse and when they've been a lapdog, and I think I could stand another 10 years of being a lapdog before I'd even begin to reminisce about LA being a competitive football town. We don't need UCLA to have interesting competition. There is plenty within the conference, and generically, with the SEC and Big-12 should we get back to BCS bowl contention.

SlobDusky, what difference does it make to you? They don't rank Cerritos College.

BruinRob Author Profile Page said:

scidiot, Will Ferrell...everything about him is funny, including the quote you posted...and it would be awesome if UCLA can pull off the improbable this Friday, I seriously doubt it, though....Dan Guerrero truly is worthless, and I have a feeling that when the alumni and Boosters finally get fed up with him Rick Neuheisel will be Guerrero's replacement.

TELL YOURSELF THAT YOU BAG OF CRAP. LOOK AT ALL THE CRAP YOU GAVE LANE KIFFIN AND CO WHEN THEY GOT HIRED. ALL OF A SUDDEN YOU'RE TELLING PEOPLE NOT TO MAKE SNAP DECISIONS ABOUT PEOPLE. HOW ABOUT MIKE GARRETT YOU FOOL. MIKE GARRET: HIRED PETE CARROLL, HIRED LANE KIFFIN, GAVE THE MIDDLE FINGER TO THE NCAA LIKE HE SHOULD HAVE (PAUL DEE IS A CORRUPT SOB AND WE WERE GETTING THE HAMMER NO MATTER WHAT), YET YOU COULDN'T WAIT TO CRITICIZE THE MAN. YOU LOVE TO POINT OUT HOW HE FIRED JOHN ROBINSON OVER VOICEMAL. OR THE FACT THAT HE DIDN'T LIKE TALKING TO SOB WRITERS LIKE YOURSELF. WELL, AS A LONGTIME FAN OF USC ATHLETICS, I DO NOT OVERLY MIND THOSE ISSUES THAT HE HAD. IF THOSE WERE SOME OF THE CRITICISMS THAT YOU CAN CONJURE UP ABOUT MG THEN, YOU ARE A BALD, SAD MAN WITH NO CREDIBILITY.

This from an earlier post:

Ghostt of CharIie Bucket (and all other obsessed/no life trolls:

In all seriousness, I sometimes enjoy the things you write here but now you're starting to look pathetic. The entire nation knows now that USC is a Top-5 team. What do you get out of coming here? Trying to salvage any remaining hope that USC fans will take anything you say seriously and actually look at their football team even slightly negatively? It's sad. Trojan fans see that USC: 1. Took Top-5 Stanford to Triple-OT. 2. Beat Top-5 Oregon @ Autzen. 3. Finished the season 10-2 after starting it (somewhat) in obscurity due to an 8-5 record last season (which UCLA would certainly LOVE to have). 4. Whipping UCLA 50-0 and finishing the season atop the Pac-12 South standings (enjoy the default "first place" finish that the Utes helped you back into) and 5. Go into 2012 as a national championship contender YET AGAIN!

So again, tell me, why are you wasting your time here? What do you gain? Is it just to humor us? Of course, I don't expect a response from you. Nobody as sad and pathetic that spends the time writing the things you do all day everyday would have the balls to actually answer these questions.

So with that I say good luck at Autzen and don't embarrass yourselves toooooo much, bRuins!!! Congrats on winning the division, you guys were great!!!
AUUUUUUUUUUU-WOOOOOOOOO!!!

Enjoy thinking about USC all offseason, trolls!

FIGHT ON!

Oh boy, some really angry people around here, I feel like i'm walking in egg shells! Blame your administrationi for being on probation. They could have self reported the Bush incident, when they found out, or had a shadow of a doubt on December 4th 2004 when Reggie Bush registered his new car with the school.

They could have given themselves their own self-imposed sanctions, fired the coach, as Ohio State did, and as UCLA reported DeShawn Foster in 1999 to the NCAA for driving an SUV that belonged to an agent, and kicked Foster off them.

Had USC taken the same actions as UCLA and Ohio State, there is a good chance no scholarship reductions would have taken place, and MAYBE, just MAYBE USC would have escaped with zero sactions and zero major vilations...but NOOOOOOOOOO, USC chose to look the other way and were in complete denial of any wrong doing, and when shit hit the fan Carroll bolted, but not before your buffon AD accused the the entire country of being envious of USC and how the entire country "wished" they were trOJans.

BruinRob,

I notice it took you a while to find your voice after what happened last Saturday. I kept checking the blog in the hours after the game to see if you had anything to say, but you were unusually silent. You're back now and ready to cheer the Bruins to the offseason national championship of empty smack talk. You sir are a formidable opponent.

Bucket,

Your site says you went 3-0 last Saturday. I guess you had the Trojans minus the points.

BruinRob Author Profile Page said:

NOBS, none of the guys you mentioned were ever on UCLA's wish list.
Leach - does not meet UCLA's model standards...we don't want a coach who locks up players in metal containers.
Meyer - has health issues, good luck to Ohio State.
Rodriguez - flopped at Michigan
Davie - flopped at ND.

UCLA wants: 1. Peterson 2. Bellotti and 3. Sumlin from Houston..that is UCLA's wish list, and the got the money to offer Peterso, don't be surprised if before this weekend UCLA announces the new hire.

Peterson-Another Boise St. loser of a coach when they get outside the kindergarten league and have to play the big boys (actually hope you do get him)

Belloti-Great choice. He can try and screw every woman in town like he did in Eugene, just ask his ex wife.

Sumlin-See Peterson answer.

@Snarfy, thank you for the attention, but you're very wrong, I was on these blogs the very next morning. Do you think I would ever give anyone here the satisfaction of saying "LOL where is Bruinrob now?" never, Snarfy, never!

I've worn my UCLA gear everyday at the gym for years, and on Monday I wore it again. I got some looks from some USC fans that were dying to make a comment, if I would have not worn my UCLA gear, finally they made a comment yesterday, I and I told them I am a real fan, not a bandwagon fan.

You see, Snarfy, UCLA represents many things that make me proud to support that university as a fan, as a season ticket holder in basketball and football and as a donor to the John Wooden Athletic Fund, UCLA to represents class in every which way. Rick Neuheisel may not have enjoyed the success he and the Bruin fans envisioned, but he left with complete class and he is the epitome of a Bruin.

Since his firing I have gained more respect for that man than ever before, so much that I wish he would replace Dan Guerrero as our A.D. today and let Rick hire his own replacement, because I can't think of anyone else that loves UCLA as much as Rick does.

@NOBS whomever we get, I can guarantee you that it will be the right person, and it will be the also the top choice of the Boosters as well, this time it's not Guerrero making the decision, it will be the people's choice.

The people choose Billy Don Jackson to be the next Bruin football coach!

NOBS Author Profile Page said:

SlobDusky, hate to tell you, but it will be a "leftover" guy that is a "bubble" coach for any top notch football program. Face it, Fucla Football is the USC basketball of college football. Who in their right mind wants to come to a school with the highest cost of living (or drive to f'ing Newbury Park-the dig is only distance), travels 26+ miles to its stadium, has a "could care less" student body, fair weather fans for the most part (check out photos of the Rose Bowl this year), have to suck the hind tit to basketball (warranted), I mean I could go on and on.

Fucla, honestly, is the place of last resort for a football coach.

BruinRob Author Profile Page said:

NOBS, really? at $4million per year? with the chance to be the 5th highest paid coach in college football? coaching athletes that combined are 3.70-star over the past 4 years of recruiting? with depth and even with Neuheisel many projecting the Bruins to be at worse 7-5 and at best 9-3 next year?

NOBS Author Profile Page said:

SlobDusky, first of all, "show me the money". Fat Dan flaps his jaws a lot, so we shall see. I know it's hard for you guys to see it, but it's the same as SC getting Tim Floyd....a "bubble" type coach. No F'ing way SC will EVER get a guy the equivalent to football's Peterson. Don't know if you watch TV or can read, but almost ALL TV color guys and writers say that Fucla DOES NOT have the caliber athlete SC does. Any coach that takes this job will be gold fish in Lake Michigan. Oh, and the big question is: Why hasn't Fucla had a B+ or better QB in what, 20 years or more? Man, there's a ton of reasons why this is a second rate job.
