--USC FOOTBALL SIGNS TWO JUNIOR COLLEGE STANDOUTS
LOS ANGELES--Junior college standouts Gerald Bowman and Morgan Breslin have signed letters of intent with USC, Trojan head coach Lane Kiffin announced today (Dec. 21).
Bowman is a 6-1, 215-pound safety from Los Angeles Pierce Junior College in Woodland Hills (Calif.) and Breslin is a 6-3, 245-pound defensive end from Diablo Valley Junior College in Pleasant Hill (Calif.).
We are thrilled to add both Gerald and Morgan into our program in January, said Kiffin. Gerald was the nations No. 2-rated junior college player and we look forward to him making an impact on our team over the next two years. Morgans last-minute decision to change to USC was very critical to us because Nick Perry left early to go to the NFL. After an extremely productive two-year junior college career, he will raise the competition level on our defensive line.
Bowman was the 2011 Southern California Football Association American Division Pacific Conference Defensive Player of the Year as a sophomore at Pierce. He had 52 tackles, including 4 for losses (with a sack), plus an interception, a fumble recovery, a forced fumble and 7 punt returns in 2011. He earned All-Region IV first team and All-Conference first team honors as a freshman in 2010 while making 58 tackles (6 for losses, with a sack), an interception and 2 deflections.
He prepped at Imhotep High in Philadelphia (Pa.). As a 2007 senior running back and safety, he had 1,659 yards on 254 carries (6.5 avg.) with 8 TDs, plus 18 receptions for 220 yards (12.2 avg.). As a junior in 2006, he had 437 yards on 79 carries (5.5 avg.) with 6 TDs, 14 receptions for 185 yards (13.2 avg.) and completed 10-of-19 passes (52.6%) for 267 yards with 3 TDs and 1 interception on offense and 31 tackles, 3 interceptions, 4 deflections and 2 forced fumbles on defense (he also returned 5 punts and a kickoff). As a 2005 sophomore, he had 259 yards on 65 carries (4.0 avg.) with 2 TDs, 5 receptions for 34 yards (6.8 avg.) with 1 TD, 21 tackles, 2 interceptions, 1 deflection, 1 fumble recovery, 2 forced fumbles and 1 blocked kick.
Breslin led the state junior colleges in sacks and tackles for losses the past 2 seasons. As a 2011 sophomore at Diablo Valley, he had 13.5 sacks and made All-American first team, All-State Regional Defensive Player of the Year and All-Golden Gate Conference first team (unanimous pick). He had 54 tackles, including 23.5 for losses (with 14.5 sacks), as a 2010 freshman.
He prepped at Las Lomas High in Walnut Creek. As a senior in 2008, he made the Max Preps All-State Division II second team and San Francisco Chronicle All-Bay Area first team. He missed part of his senior season with a broken foot suffered playing rugby.
