Scott On USC

Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott spoke tonight on USC being ineligible to play in the Pac-12 Football Championship Game:
“Certainly had it not been for the postseason ban for USC, we would have had two top-10 teams in this game, so of course it’s disappointing when such a strong team is not allowed to participate.
“It’s not something we control. Obviously we and USC are abiding by other decisions by the NCAA. Therefore, UCLA is in a very good spot here.
“Of course people will be disappointed that the team that finishes first in its division can’t participate, but that’s the nature of it. It will still be a great showcase. We’re expecting a full house, electric atmosphere. There’s an awful lot on the line. UCLA has the potential to pull off one of the greatest upsets in Conference history.”

  1. It’s a good thing for Larry boy that the Pac 12 championship game this year is not at a neutral site. Can you imagine how few people would’ve shown up to this game had it been somewhere other than Eugene?

  2. way go be politically correct, Mr. Scott. it must be is awkward when the “stong team” in question has been bowl banned for years now due to their blatant cheating!

maybe next year trOXans, but that ASSUMES no recidivism by the trOXans, and that is certainly no lock!!

  3. That a boy Fred – on the USC blog while your bruins are getting there ass kicked. For “years now” Fred is 2 years. Next year everything is back t to normal – just like this year 50-0. How did Cal State Northridge do this year? Probably don’t even have a team!! By the way, the picture that came up on the internet shows as one poster wrote “when Fred fell from the tree, he hit every branch on the way down.” LOL loser!!

  4. The conference risks having the championship game in small venues. What if Wash St. hosts the game? Will the Pac-12 move it to Seattle? Move a Utah game to Las Vegas? What about Oregon State? Does the conference really want those smaller venues to host its “big” game? (The slight possibility does exist.)

Also, if UCLA hosted the championship (Hawr!), the teams would play in the Rose Bowl for the right to play in the Rose Bowl. Strange.

They should just play it in the Coliseum. It will be there the majority of the time anyway.

  5. If Larry Scott wanted USC to be eligible, he should have fought harder (at all?) for USC. Does anyone think Mike Slive would have shrunk like Scott did? I like Larry Scott, and unlike Wolf, I don’t believe that he just fell into a good situation with the Pac-12 TV rights, but he did a piss poor job of protecting his bread winner here. The end result? A laughable inaugural Pac-12 Championship.

You get what you deserve Larry!

    FIGHT ON!

  6. sureshot,

I wish Larry would’ve stepped up for us as well. But before we get upset with Larry, we have to remember that our own AD and school President didn’t put up much of a fight. If we can’t expect our insiders to fight for us, then how can we expect much more from the Pac 12 Commish?

  7. It was Larry that kept us out of the game, not the NCAA. He didnt know how to deal with the situation where if USC won the conference title, sending a team that didnt win it to the Rose Bowl.

  8. I don’t blame Larry for keeping us out of the Pac 12 title game. He really had no choice after we were handed the Bowl ban. You can’t have a meaningless title game where no matter what the outcome is, Oregon is going to the Rose Bowl. I just wish Haden and Nikias would’ve done what the USC community wanted them to do–stand up for our school.

  9. Do you all ever think that maybe you just shouldn’t have cheated in the first place? Or that maybe SC should have just taken the probation a few years back when it happened? Perhaps someone could have trained Reggie Bush to just write those guys a check and keep them quiet. I know it is difficult, but perhaps taking a little responsibility for poor choices is in order. Just because Ohio State, Miami and Penn State are dirtier, does not make you clean. You are lucky to have Pat Haden. He is a classy AD and has moved SC back on track.

  10. @ProbationU,
    EFF U!
    What a horses ass!

Do you ever think that maybe YOU just shouldn’t have charged USC with cheating in the first place when YOU CANNOT and when YOU HAVE NOTHING other than a non USC booster/administrator/associate/whatever.. having made a private deal with the parents of a player over a hundred miles away in a situation that had nothing whatsoever to do with the University?
So stick your ” holier than thou “poor choices responsibility” bullshit where the sun don’t shine asshole!
    Fight On

  11. @carlosb

Such a mature and well-reasoned response. Guess the car Bush was driving, Joe McKnight’s car, the Ting brothers, etc. don’t register. You’re probably a Raiders fan too.

  12. @ProstateU
Such a weak and dumbass response on your part moron! Nothing you listed is.. Key word coming next dufus.. “RELEVANT” to those sanctions or the perceived cheating of which you wishfully spew! Including Bush’s old car!
It must eat at you to have to live on a Trojan Blog to what, try to make ucla relevant by demeaning their idols? Wonderful! Oh, and weak too!
