`We're Not Even'
Pete Caroll told Vince Young after tonight's Seahawks victory over the Eagles, ``We're not even.''
That assumes Young is responsible for USC losing to Texas in the Rose Bowl. But as we've long said here, the main reason USC lost was its decision to go for it on fourth down-and-2 without Reggie Bush on the field. Why did that matter? Because Texas safety Michael Huff said Bush's absence allowed him to move up to the line of scrimmage and tackle LenDale White.
Lane Kiffin deserves an assist for that play call, which might explain why he was in tears after the game. One could also mention burning a timeout before Texas went for two points, which deprived the Trojans of having a chance to stop the clock in the final seconds.
In any event, there were a lot of coaching decisions that led to USC's demise, not Vince Young.
In other news, Mr. Wolf's hair continues to fall out. More on this later.

trojans scored 38 on the longhorns. regardless of kiffin's 4th down call, the defense deserves more responsibility for the loss. trojans had injury issues on defense going into the game that were compounded by more injuries during the game. scott, it is time to stop blaming kiffin for the loss. you just come across as petty.

Rat Dude's right - it was the defense's fault for allowing Texas to just march down the field and score; and for blowing the lead we had with 6 minutes left in the game for that matter. (I think it was 12 points?)
As for the time out - I was at the game. One of our players made that ill-advised time out call after the Texas TD.
And never forget all those questionable "judgment calls" by the officials and the mysteriously non-functioning replay equipment when Vince Young's knee was down close to the red zone. That particular game had the most unfathomable elements ever. Well, I guess there was some sort of force that didn't want to allow a three-peat of national championship, because it still has yet to happen. Have you noticed Urban Meyer exited Florida after winning two? Now he's in Ohio State. Hmmm...something's definitely fishy around here.

Problem in that game was the defense. If ting picks the pass the game is over. Young over matched the Freshman linebackers. White was on the radio and hinted that the 4th down play was not the one that came down from upstairs.

The Rose bowl was lost because USC failed to spy VY with an outside LB (simple adjustment), Bush's bonehead lateral at the end of a great run, and the ref's failure to call VY down when there is a picture of him throwing a pass while taking a knee!!

Little Goatboy Kiffin crying like a baby after his choke job. It wasn't the stupid 4th and 2 play ... it should have never come down to that. It was the idiot blowing the 1st half ! SC should have won that game 55-19 ( ok 30 ) ... Chow style. Vince Young would have been a nice side show, not the hero , dumb ass Kiffin made him. But Lame O pissed around in the 1st half and then choked it away in the end , per usual.

The main reason USC lost to Texas was that it was one of Pete's youngest and worst defenses. How many dropped interceptions and unrecovered fumbles in that game? Fresno State scored more in 2005 than Texas did. Regarding the last drive..the last four plays consisted of an incomplete throw to the fullback Hancock and three runs by White. Kiffin effectively took two Heisman Trophy Winners and Dwayne Jarret out of the game at that point.
