History Lesson
It was fashionable at the Galen Center last night to make comments about whether this was the worst USC basketball team? But remember that Henry Bibby went 9-19 in 1998 and then had back-to-back 13-win teams in 2003-04.
Bibby and Jim Saia won 12 games in 2005. Charlie Parker went 9-19 in 1995.
And then there were two teams I'm very familiar with: George Raveling's 1988 team went 7-21. And his 1987 team was 9-19.
Also worth noting is none of those teams played a schedule as difficult as this year's team.

Rather than fashionable . It was very painful to discuss the horrendous state of Trojan basketball at the game. Boyd's 77 team at 6-20 had Marv Safford a scoring guard. Raveling's 87 team had Derrick Dowell. 20ppg. 88 had Ronnie Coleman #2 scorer in SC history . Common thread with all those teams some very good individual performers. Our current team does not have an ability to shoot the ball. In fact there is little skill in any facet of the game from anyone. That is the painful reality. And, all the previous poor seasons mentioned had to play at the Sports Arena with the birds flying around in the rafters. O'Neill recruited his players that can't shoot and the future does not look good to me. I do not see Walton, Jabbar , Miner or Westphal signed for next season.
There's no good reason that SC tolerates mediocrity in mens basketball. Fire Retread O'Neill!
Did not check all the schedules for the years mentioned in your column. The schedule this year is mediocre with CSUN,
Morgan St., UCR, TCU, So. Carolina, and the great loss to
Cal Poly (SLO). One big time team in Kansas. The conference is weak so where is the tough schedule so far in your diluted mind? Does every school make the Pac-12 tournament this season or what? The biggest farce would be if the Trojans won the whole thing and make the ncaa playoff.
Talk about "TRADITION RICH"...southern cal basketball...a tradition like no other! I just hope Ron Holmes' kid doesn't come in here and start messing with things otherwise we're gonna have to change the so cal THEME SONG (courtesy of Billy Joel)...."Just The Way You Are"
Don't go changing, to try and please me,
You never let me down before,(due to low expectations)
Don't imagine, you're too familiar,
And I don't see you anymore. (nobody shows up at games)
I would not leave you, in times of trouble,(s.c.for life)
We never could have come this far,(sports arena to galen)
I took the good times, I'll take the bad times,(all of 'em)
I'll take you just the way you are.(worst team in League)
