Morning Buzz

Tight end J.T. Kerr, who spent the past three seasons at Nebraska, has transferred to USC. Kerr is also expected to try fullback for the Trojans.

  1. This guy seems to be really injury prone, both in high school and at Nebraska. Transfers seem to be a way to keep the roster at 75 in 2013 & 2014.

  2. What a nice class 2013 is shaping up to be. You have to figure at least 1 of these early commits will switch but most of them should sign LOIs by early Feb.

By my count unless some current players leave early & assuming all of the 2012 signees enroll this fall USC will have room for only 12 additional scholarship players in 2013 but if enough players leave for whatever reason USC could sign up to 3 early enrollees & another 15 for the fall for a total of 18 new players in 2013.

USC needs a C (1). DiPoalo appears to be in line to replace Holmes in 2013 but he hasn’t distinguished himself yet & even if he is ready next year USC will need to get a younger player behind him. USC could turn to Martinez or Hobbi but those guys are penciled in at G & USC needs 2 more interior OLs (3). Unless they plan to slide Cope-Fitzpatrick over to OT (Wolf says it isn’t) USC will need to bring in another OT(4).

With 5 currently on the roster USC cant afford to bring in any more TEs. Massington (5) fills a big need at SE & since Woods is likely to turn pro a year early USC should probably bring in an additional WR (6).

Browne (7) fills a big need at QB. (Of the 3 QBs behind Barkley most likely only 2 will still be on campus next year). Madden and Morgan look like the immediate future at TB after McNeal is gone & Isaac (8) and Davis (9) will be right behind ’em. (The TR from NE will add depth at FB behind Vainuku & Pinner.)

USC should return 5 DTs in 2013, so they only need but 1 more. I’m assuming that will be Bigelow (10). Even after Horton and Kennard leave USC should be loaded at DE so Fitts (11) better be really really good. USC looks to be set at ML but they are going to need to bring in at least 2 OLs (13). USC should add 3 safeties (16) & they’re adding Hawkins (17) at CB. USC is set at long snapper, punter, and kicker.

So I want to see 4 OLs, 1 more WR, 2 LBs & 3 Ss.

  3. NJ….Thanks for that. Do you think it’ll be hard to maintain a 75 roster for 2013 or 2014, without bringing in transfers?

  4. So….this guy Kerr spent three (3) years at Nebraska? Does that make a “NET” Two (2) years after Vehikite (http://www.foxsportswest.com/05/17/12/USCs-Vehikite-order-to-serve-one-year-in/landing.html?blockID=730920&feedID=3707) serve his ONE (1) year in “COUNTY Jail”? Are Jail terms TRANSFERABLE?
    fit on Torgan!
LIMBO U…where there’s only one way to go…..LOWER!
Maybe someone should call SUCks grad, Bernie Parks (or Lawyer John!), and see if he can Help a Fellow Torgan BRO out!
    BWAAAAAAAAA!

  5. TC, Nope. Heck, I’m counting 64 current scholarship players, including the early enrollees & end-of-season TRs, and 13 incoming TRs & FR. That adds up to 77. So I think unless 2 of the FR don’t enroll and/or two of the current players leave–for whatever reason–SC is going to have to take away 2 scholarships. How are things out in the Valley of the Sun?

  6. Ok seriously, is there a way NJTrojan can take over this blog from Wolf? His post gave a better analysis than anything I’ve seen from Wolf.

  7. I was thinking the same thing, Sam Gilbert, but I didn’t want to hurt Scott’s feelings.

  8. TurdMex Kiffin announced Vehikite was no longer in the program months ago. Recruit anymore laptop thieves over at westwood trade tech?

  9. LJ – hurt Scott’s feelings? Are you serious? Scott provides no factual information here, just gossip and innuendo’s. This is like the National Enquirer. Hell, he can’t even spell and compose an intelliegent sentence and paragraph. The big Queen is an embarassement.

  10. Really nice articles on Michael Lev’s blog regarding the Trojans that went to Haiti and the new five star recruit from Stockton.

  11. I don’t see any reason why Kiffin would have allowed this unless it was so that he can move him to either fullback or running back or something. We have more stud tight ends than UCLA has losses last year. And that’s a lot.

  12. Maybe Kerr is coming in as a WO? Wolf doesn’t say, but the kid’s from Fallbrook so MAYBE the kid was disappointed things haven’t worked out at NE, his family has enough money to pay for a couple years at USC, and he’ll get a chance to WO at a school he probably would have jumped at back in 2009. I’m just speculating though…

  13. Thai, your raising your game to a whole ‘nother level!!

what are these Nabobs crying about anyway (i know, that’s all they do these days)??? the got the concensus top beat writer in America!!

the wolfman delivers 2/3 of the scoops, and the Cadre covers the rest!!

    AUUUUUUU-WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

  14. A bit of a head-scratcher for me, but maybe they staff feels like they need a solid back-up FB. Jaheel maybe that guy, but I guess it’s best to redshirt him if possible.

    Fight On!!

  16. Great job as usual NJ Trojan. Maybe you know the background on what exactly happened with Vehikite, all the news accounts are very imcomplete. I was really hoping he’d contribute next year.

  17. Great post NJ Trojan! Compared to you, Scott Wolf has about as much insight as Fart 0330.

  18. Trojan 70, if you dig into the archives over on Gold’s blog, you can probably find a nice article about the time when the UCLA football team journeyed to the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl to provide much-needed relief to the Fighting Illini.

  19. This Thaimex guy and this Bucket guy see USC getting all these top recruits and this is thier mentality towards it: “ANGER ANGER…..WHY DO ALL THESE STUDS GO TO USC….ANGER, JEALOUSY….WHY NOT MY SCHOOL…ANGER, HATE….USC ON PROBATION….ANGER, CONFUSION…STILL BETTER THAN MY SCHOOL…ANGER, DENIAL”

  20. WEB – that is what the little gutties do, they provided relief 8 times last year. The relief they provided USC was especially graifying and a great way to end the season. Hey did you know CerritosLob was 5″6″ tall? He needs a booster seat so he can see over the steering wheel…
