Nothing like the USC JV tennis team being told where they would play via the newspaper in 1956.

I hear former USC assistant coach Demetrice Martin, who was the defensive backs coach at UCLA last season, was hired at Arizona.

USC still has a vacancy for a running backs coach. It doesn’t appear like Western Kentucky can supply anyone. So where will USC find the next Deland McCullough, who was at Indiana before coming to USC. USC got lucky with McCullough. Can it hit the jackpot two straight years?

One potential problem: Coaches might view USC as a one-year job as far as security goes in case the Trojans lose more than expected next season.

ESPN has USC as a No. 10 seed while Jerry Palm of CBS Sports has USC as a No. 11 seed.

All things being equal, Sam Darnold always seemed like someone that actually might come back for his junior year. I certainly heard that from many USC fans. I always thought it was 50-50 going into the 2017 season.

But going into next year, Darnold knew he would have a 29-year-old first-time quarterbacks coach. Now it might be an awesome first-time coach. But would you want to risk your NFL stock and possibility of being the No. 1 pick on that chance?

The Pac-12 has 29 players on the combined rosters of the Philadelphia Eagles and New England Patriots, which is more than any other conference. Ironically, USC has just one player: wide receiver Nelson Agholor of the Eagles.

It’s worth noting Eagles QB Nick Foles was a three-star prospect, ranked the 30th-best quarterback in the nation by Rivals.com. Foles was the quarterback at Arizona when it handed Pete Carroll the final loss of his USC career, a 21-17 setback on Dec. 5, 2009.

Stanford QB Keller Chryst, who was replaced by K.J. Costello during the season, announced he will become a graduate transfer in June, which means he will be immediately eligible next season.

USC coach Clay Helton and defensive line coach Kenechi Udeze make a home visit with defensive tackle Trevor Trout of St. Louis tonight. Trout is already committed to USC.
