Boyd won't go to Pauley
Former USC player and coach Bob Boyd has attended most USC basketball games at Galen Center this season. He's gone on the court at halftime of the conference games to introduce honored Trojans players of the past. He was coach of USC in 1971, the last time a USC-UCLA game had this level of importance. However, the biggest game between the rivals in 35 years isn't enough to get him to go back to Pauley Pavilion.
``I've had my fill of that place,'' Boyd said. ``It's not a good environment. It's a very nasty-type crowd. It's too bad because it isn't what coach Wooden would want represented, but they're way out of line too much.''
Matthew Kredell broke into the Daily News in 1998, working part time
at the paper while going to USC. The basketball team’s Elite Eight
run in 2000-01 was USC’s athletic highlight in his time at the
school, when the football team was stuck in the Paul Hackett-era.
After graduating in 2001, he started writing for the Daily News full
time. He’s in his second year covering USC, which coincides with the
rise of the program. He’ll take credit for the success, though Tim
Floyd may have more to do with it. A third-generation Los Angelean,
he grew up reading the Daily News while at El Camino Real High School
in Woodland Hills.
Comments
Spoken better than anyone ever has about that god forsaken crowd. Although I have attended many of the Trojan games there, the crowd's conduct towards the other team is despicable. This includes non s.c. games as well. I have seen several other teams there and it is not any different. It is one thing to yell for your team and further support the home court theory. It is another to act like complete morons toward the visiting team. This includes middle aged idiots as much as some of the students. It is crowds like that who contribute negativity to the rivalry off the court. I know several (long time supporting and prominent) bruins who are embarassed by their own crowd also. This should rebute any attempt by bruins to come refute these comments on this board. Years back I was in a couple very near altercations at Pauley on different occasions as several fans were throwing debris my way. On another occasion, a 60ish year old guy objected to me and my groups hoisting of our 2 fingers to conquest after a Trojan win. In each instance, all their ushers (who look and act more like greeters at Walmart.. although not nearly as professional) would do is look the other way. It should be noted that in each of the above instances, I did not even wear Trojan colors or cheer and scream out of control in an obnoxious manner to so called urge any fans around me on. This is without question why many more Trojan fans attend Pauley. Hopefully tonight will be different. Not so sure though...

Bob Boyd and his minions are a bunch of wusses - Pauley is largely filled with a geriatic crowd - guess Boyd couldn't get a ticket.
You either are delusional or haven't been to a football game at the toliet otherwise known as the Coliseum where Raider Nation Rejects throw things and generally assault UCLA fans.
Classless??? How about the "fUCLA" shirts or "UCLGay" shirts? Glass houses, trOJan$.
Tonight, you'll hear shouted from the rafters...
"Just like football!!"
Whine On!

I have been going to Pauley Pavilion in my SC colors since 1971. I have been punched on about four occasions, but I was asking for it, taunting the Bruin faithful. West L.A. people, in general, are the most arrogant and unfriendly in all of Los Angeles, so I have fun putting them in their place-- there are no big shots in my world.
The rooting section has a "cheer" before the game where they continually point at the opposng team, and shout slogans such as "That's a losing team!" And when the SC girls dance, the students turn their backs.
I have noticed at Galen that the fans are supportive of SC, and have not been negative toward the other team, not even UCLA. But you cannot legislate class to Bruins. Besides, their punishment is that they have to live out their lives in their skin-- I would rather live in my Trojan one.

Hey classless bRUIN moron, Bob Boyd is an old peer of your man Wooden and was an excellent coach. I highly doubt he is a "wuss". I went to the last game at Pauley, first time there and it was disgusting.
There's no excuse for middle finger salutes to the SC fight song in response to the victory sign, F*** SC chants, etc.
Funny how you compare it football, we're talking about basketball and you would never receive the same treatment in return at Galen (or the Sports Arena).

If that crowd was geriatric, I'll be getting my AARP card tomorrow.

Bruin 4 Life 93... Lawyer John had it pinned exactly... You poor soul having to live in bruin skin.. It's not your fault. You don't know any better. Exactly the type of response I would have expected from someone who can't even spell toilet. I could not have scripted it better myself. Thanks for demonstrating in every manner why you truly are a Bruin 4 Life. I hope you didn't waste any money getting a UCLA education... You must do something about that spelling problem on toilet. You can't even spell the name of your home. Oh, by the way, your fellow flushables were out in full force last night at Pauley. It's like a Trojan is trespassing to enter Pauley the way some treat us. There were some nice bruins who went against everything you preached (including coach Wooden, whom I went down the elevator with). Fight on to you ! I suggest you do something about your anger problem buddy.... Some posters of the S.C. team photo plastered across your bedroom is the first step in the 9 prong process to your recovery.
