MATTHEW KREDELL

Matthew Kredell broke into the Daily News in 1998, working part time at the paper while going to USC. The basketball team’s Elite Eight run in 2000-01 was USC’s athletic highlight in his time at the school, when the football team was stuck in the Paul Hackett-era. After graduating in 2001, he started writing for the Daily News full time. He’s in his second year covering USC, which coincides with the rise of the program. He’ll take credit for the success, though Tim Floyd may have more to do with it. A third-generation Los Angelean, he grew up reading the Daily News while at El Camino Real High School in Woodland Hills.

Nick Young update

Young is likely to make his announcement next week. The indication he has received from NBA personnel is that, if he declares, his range in the draft would be between picks 10 and 25 in the first round depending on how he does in workouts.

Comments

If he goes, I hope he gets round 1. Anyone would be silly to pass up the opportunity.

If its iffy, he'd do better to have one more year under Coach Floyd. The rating system in the NBA is not as solid as the NFL so to me, 11-25 means no lotto but probably a first round. Who knows though.

Nick will make the best decision for himself. He deserves the best shot. We know he can make them!

If Nick Young leaves he will be just an average run of the mill NBA player. He does not have the ball handling skills to be a high level NBA player. He will get his three year contract and then can join the O'Bannon's and Bluthenthals of the world playing ball in Europe.

No class PH55. His fade away and penetration ability will serve him well in the pro's. One more year may under coach may improve his strength speed and defense but its his decision. No need to player hate.

Bluthenthal, he sucked. He wasn't even drafted.
