Disaster preparedness

Disaster season seems to have hit full tilt and with that comes the dilemma of what to do with your pets. Our sister blog South Bay Pets has posted an informative entry on recent flooding in Cedar Rapids as well as valuable links from the Humane Society and that Aspca.
I also got an email from TripsWithPets.com describing what may happen to your pets in the event of a disaster and how to prepare for it.
Pets are abandoned during hurricanes and natural disasters every year. Pet
owners' lack of planning is a big part of the problem. Many find themselves scrambling to find a safe harbor for their pet in the event of evacuation from their homes.
said the email.
Aside from detailed pet travel info ranging from pet-related airline info to pet-friendly hotels etc... the website now features a Disater Preparedness and Resource Guide for pets.
The guide includes important info ranging from figuring out an evacuation zone and route to what should go in a pet first-aid kit. You can even buy a first-aid kit as well as other pet-travel accessories.
The guide also gives information for the National Hurricane Center, Weather
Channel, American Red Cross, and FEMA - just to name a few. The guide also
offers site visitors access to helpful directories, such as over 20,000 pet
friendly accommodations across the U.S., airlines, pet hospitals, ATM
locators and more.
