Cooper Lawrence says 'oops'
If you're a gamer, you've probably kept in tune with the Fox vs. Mass Effect saga. The network and author Cooper Lawrence fired away at the game with all inaccurate guns blazing, grossly decrying the game as sci-fi porn with full-frontal nudity and all but dismissing game journo Geoff Keighley's efforts to discuss it (Lawrence infamously laughed off Keighley's question as to whether or not she actually saw/played the game -- probably not a good move for someone called an 'expert').
As you can imagine, this ticked off the gaming community. Many responded in typical fashion, bombing her with every possible insult you can throw at someone. Others, however, took the clever approach, blasting her self-help book on Amazon with 1-star ratings and derisive reviews -- with many reviewers openly saying that they haven't read the book.
The New York Times reports that Lawrence has recanted, saying that she "misspoke." Here's an excerpt:
In an interview on Friday, Ms. Lawrence said that since the controversy over her remarks erupted she had watched someone play the game for about two and a half hours. “I recognize that I misspoke,” she said. “I really regret saying that, and now that I’ve seen the game and seen the sex scenes it’s kind of a joke.
“Before the show I had asked somebody about what they had heard, and they had said it’s like pornography,” she added. “But it’s not like pornography. I’ve seen episodes of ‘Lost’ that are more sexually explicit.”
Another subplot in this whole mess was the mini-duel between Fox and Electronic Arts, which defended the game shortly after the Fox/Lawrence piece. EA wanted a correction, but Fox hasn't done it yet.

Review: No More Heroes (Wii)
Goichi Suda, director of Ubisoft's new Wii release, No More Heroes, must have been a fan of Kill Bill. His new game - released in the United States earlier this week - seems like an homage to Quentin Tarantino's epic film. And Suda's video game is just as much fun as Tarantino's movie.
No More Heroes is a first-person action game starring an assassin named Travis Touchdown. Touchdown is the 11th-ranked assassin in the world. To reach the top ranking, he must kill the 10 killers (and their henchmen) in front of him.
The highlights in No More Heroes come during the fight scenes. Travis Touchdown uses a sword similar to a light saber. Battles use a combination of conventional buttons and the Wii's motion-sensing features. Bad guys are finished off with a swing of the Wii remote - a satisfying way to bring about a fountain of anime blood.
The game has weak spots. In between assassin battles, Travis Touchdown must perform off-topic tasks like kicking coconuts from trees, which become a little tedious. The open-world part of the game strives for Grand Theft Auto-type mayhem, but falls short. But the fun of the kill - along with a wicked sense of humor that rears its head throughout the game - more than make up for the the shortfalls.
Note: The game is rated for mature audiences, and has the blood, guts, language and adult situations to earn it. So don't buy this one for the kids.

I Wanna Be The Guy: The Movie: The Game
Take every difficult part of every 8-bit game you played, and smash them all together to create perhaps one of the hardest pieces of platforming ever created. That's "I Wanna Be The Guy."
You can find it here.
Seriously, this game is a ridiculously evil piece of work. By the way, this isn't me playing in the video. Hell no.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl ad in Japan
If you have a Wii, and are a Nintendo fan, this should whet your appetite. I played this for the first time at E3, and I really couldn't pull myself away.

Back from the holidays ... and into CES (but I'm not there)
I'm sitting out CES this year due to an abundance of non-gaming work (one of which will involve a wind tunnel). I'll try to sprinkle in whatever gaming stuff I can, starting now. One nugget I liked: the demo video from GameTrailers for LittleBigPlanet for the PS3. This one deals with the inner feelings of the character of "Sackboy." Enjoy.
