So the initial reports that the commision that oversees high school competition in Washington state was considering changing its code of conduct for spectators to include a ban on booing was erroneous, it does present an interesting concept.
The commission does acknowledge a concern about the increase of unruly and profane fans degrading sportsmanship at the high school level, but apparently banning the boo is not on the agenda.
If it were, would such action have an impact – positive or negative – on spectators’ behavior at games?
Would it even be possible to administrate the rule?
Or has booing, in some form, become such a fixture at high school or any athletic event that now it’s just a matter of accepting it and moving on?
