Oilers baseball coach Ralph Gutierrez checked in at about 9 p.m. last night with some information about a possible protest regarding Thursday’s 3-2 loss at South Hills.
The issue is whether the South Hills baseball team took illegal batting practice prior to its CIF-Southern Section Division 3 first-round playoff game.
As of last night, neither Gutierrez nor anyone from Montebello had filed a protest with the CIF-SS office.
In fact, Gutierrez mentioned a protest was only "under consideration" and that he and Montebello athletic director Tim Murphy would discus possible actions this morning.
While Gutierrez didn’t want to specify exactly what he observed, he made it clear he believed South Hills was in violation of the batting practice rule and that the Huskies’ activities did not fall into the soft toss, pepper or batting tee types of practice allowed.
A Montebello parent recorded the practice, which will be reviewed by Montebello this morning.
As of now, it’s just a waiting game.
