For the sixth straight time this postseason, the Rio Hondo College baseball team found itself victorious. The Roadunners defeated Northern California top seed College of San Mateo, 18-6, in Friday night’s CCCAA State Tournament Final Four at Fresno City College.
With the win, SoCal No. 2 Rio Hondo (32-10) advances to face NoCal No.2 Ohlone College in the championship bracket semifinal on Saturday at 2 p.m.
A win in the semifinal would then send Rio Hondo into the title game on Sunday at 11 a.m.
Ohlone also looked impressive as it beat up SoCal No. 1 El Camino College, 12-0, behind a combined one-hitter.
As for Rio, the Roadrunners scored 10 runs in the fourth behind two three-run homers from Francisco Fuentes (Santa Fe) and Thomas Jenson.
