Your Questions, Pt. 5

I know it’s been about a month since I did the last “Your Questions” segment, so let’s get started on your questions. If you have any questions, this is the place to do them.

Campa – Any possible way we could get more coverage on the St. Paul baseball program? Varsity is doing well, heck even the JV and Frosh/Soph teams are kickin’ butt! I haven’t seen an article about the team in a while. Any chance of more coverage?

We are St. Paul – I thought we did a pretty good job of covering St. Paul this year. We covered several important games including all three of the Swordsmens’ playoff games.

How about a little coverage on the Del Rio league Track and field Pole vaulting events? Zero coverage so far. I have personally seen these kids bust there butts to do well and they deserve their propts. you have some great athletes and they are practically ignored. Wake up Whittier Daily!!!

Joe – I ask you to find a newspaper that covered track and field better than we did. This was a special year for T&F and I recognized that early – that’s why we covered several events. The area’s pole vaulters did not have a strong year. That’s just a fact. It doesn’t speak to their work ethic. None qualified past the divisional prelims. Sorry.

I know this is off the topic, but is there any way that you can update us on the coaching situation at Montebello and Warren? Apparently there was a max exodus at Montebello High School and almost every coach left for Warren. Is that true?

CAF – A few coaches did leave Montebello to join Warren, which did cause some friction. However, both coaches have passed that initial tension and still speak highly of each other.

Jimenez’s coaches include Andrew Guerrero (OC), Erik Gonzalez (inside backers), Ruben Patino (DC & outside backers), Ralph Valdez (defensive line), Marc Hernandez (outside backers and defensive line), Kevin Rivas (running backs), Rob Gil (QB’s), Glenn Gonzalez (TE), Max Llanes (freshman football) and Anthony Bribiesca (secondary). I do apologize if I spelled anyone’s name incorrectly. Jimenez wasn’t sure of some of the spellings.

Rotary Anon:

How are these (Rotary) players picked, stats, positions, votes, just curious.

RA – There is a selection committee that sends out surveys to players and coaches and gets feedback. The committee then gets together and makes its final picks.

Hey Andrew who cares about Gil Jimenez really? He’s not in our area you never report on St. John Bosco so why are you so interested in Warren?

FF – I’m not reporting on Warren, I’m reporting on Gil Jimenez, a former St. Paul football coach who lives in Whittier and whose hires have affected a few local schools. I’m not really sure what the SJB comment has to do with the conversation.

San Pablo said:

Because St.Paul is small in the interior line, I would like to see the Swordsmen run the double-wing next football season, what do you think?

SP – I think because of size issues, St. Paul will have to run some sort of zone-blocking scheme. I would need to see more of the offensive personal to make a better guess.

Swordsmen 83 said:

What happened to Ms. Barr? and how many players did LH recruit/steal away from SPHS?

Swordsmen 83 – Barr was replaced by Kate Aceves. As for the LH question, grow up.

Local Parent said:

Why did St Paul HS get rid of their principal last week?

LP – That’s an excellent question – one that no one affiliated with St. Paul has wanted to answer. As soon as I get a response, I will post one.

Anon said:

When are all area teams announced?

Anon – Within the next two weeks. All photos have been shot. We’re just finalizing the dates and will announce them soon.

St. Paul 83 said:

So did the (SP) softball coach depart as well?

SP83 – Not according to SP AD Casey Morales.

Anonymous said:

Congratulations to all the young men that were drafted. Any truth to the rumor that Kearney has left Whittier Christian baseball?

Anon – Kearney has left to coach at Western.

Mike said:

Has there been an All Area Baseball Team announced?

Mike – It will be soon. Within the next two weeks.

Anon said:

Was there a coaching change at Cantwell Sacred Heart for baseball?

Anon: I haven’t heard anything. If I do, I will list an update.

Area Fan said:

Is there any report on the La Habra Blue and White game? Mr. Campa?

AF – I just don’t think there’s much to report. I spoke to Coach Frank Mazzotta and he said the same. It’s an spring intrasquad scrimmage. Quarterback Cody Clements played well and nobody got hurt. Maybe that’s the most important piece of news to report.

COME ON MURRAY said:

Andrew are you going to get with Aram, Fred, Miguel on this magazine called PrepXtra. If so I think its a great idea.

COM – Yes, we’re also doing a Prep Xtra magazine in Whittier that actually won’t be different content-wise than what we already do.

In fact, Fred, Miguel and Aram are actually copying what we’ve been doing in Whittier for years and are writing about all their area teams. There isn’t really an update because not much is changing.

The difference, however, is that the preview is moving from the paper into a magazine.
