El Rancho’s 2010 Football Schedule

It’s time to talk a little El Rancho football. With the paper today is Dons head coach Rick Zepeda, who is embarking on his third go-around with Blue Pride.

Zepeda, a St. Paul High and LSU alumnus, gave a 15-minute overview on this year’s schedule, including on early changes and his expectations of the games.

Commentary: I joked with Zepeda that he must have known about the turmoil at Los Altos and Northview last year, which is why he scheduled two games against first-year coaches to start off the season. He responded “it might look that way but believe me I had no clue about what would happen at those schools.”

Zepeda has an interesting nonleague schedule capped with a rare match-up versus Fontana. As for league, the Dons are like several DRL teams in rebuilding seasons in a wide-open year. I erred on Week 9 in the podcast saying El Rancho was hosting Santa Fe (you can’t always trust maxpreps). The Chiefs are at home versus the Dons. I think if El Rancho can go 2-3 or 3-2 in the preseason (not an easy task), they’ll have enough momentum to grab a playoff spot and maybe even win league.
