A couple of former area baseball greats made news this week.
The first piece of news was that the Los Angeles Dodgers claimed New York Mets catcher Rod Barajas off waivers on Sunday.
The Santa Fe High School alumnus will suit up for the first time in Dodger Blue tonight as the Dodgers plays at Milwaukee.
Barajas is batting .225 with 12 homers and 34 RBIs.

The second piece of news revolves around former Rio Hondo College phenom Evan Longoria, who today was named the American League co-Player of the Week along with the New York Yankees Robinson Cano.

Longoria is probably in town for the last time this season as the Rays play the Angels today and on Wednesday. He’s worth the price of admission.
