The paper was at Saturday’s La Serna-La Habra football scrimmage where afterward senior running back Drake Griffin confirmed he would appeal his recent transfer denial by the CIF-Southern Section office.
According to the CIF-SS website, Griffin was “denied eligibiltiy (sic) in all sports at all levels” on Wednesday even though many at La Habra, including coach Frank Mazzotta, were unaware of the action until Friday.
Griffin, a transfer from St. Paul, lives down the block from La Habra High and said his family would appeal on Monday.
Griffin participated in Saturday’s scrimmage and was the sharpest of La Habra’s back. Should he not be available for next Friday’s Zero Week opener versus Orange Lutheran, Mazzotta confirmed he may consider throwing standout wide receiver Brett Bartolone in the backfield.
