Game Balls (Week 2)

Before we talk about the upcoming schedule, let’s give a few game balls to the top Week 2 performers.

The first game ball goes to Whittier Christian High senior quarterback Stephen Anderson. It was just another ho-hum week for Anderson, the Daily News boys Athlete of the Week, who threw four touchdown passes for the second consecutive game. Anderson completed 18 of 30 passes for 240 yards and four scores in the Heralds’ 33-11 nonleague win over Kern Valley on Friday. Anderson has thrown for 10 touchdowns in three games against only one interception.

The second game ball goes to Cantwell Sacred Heart junior wide receiver Adam Aguirre. The high-flying receiver totaled six receptions for 82 yards in Cantwell’s 35-17 win over Baldwin Park on Friday. The Cardinals are off to a 2-0 start for the fifth year in a row.

The third game ball goes to La Mirada High senior lineman Isaac Luatua. The Alabama-bound Luatua recovered a fumble for a touchdown and was also credited with a safety in La Mirada’s 30-6 win over California last week. Luatua was part of a defense that held the Condors to their lowest point total since 2007.

The final game ball goes to the La Serna offensive line. The Lancers run attack proved unstoppable in La Serna’s 48-21 win over Long Beach Wilson. A total of nine different ball-carriers combined to rush 43 times for 407 yards, which averages out to a little more than nine yards a carry.
