Video Takes: Maranatha vs. Whittier Christian (Week 6)

It’s on to the third Week 6 video prediction/breakdown with a new guest, Pasadena Star-News preps editor Miguel Melendez. Here we talk about the Olympic League opener as Maranatha (5-1) of Pasadena stokes an old rivalry with host Whittier Christian (5-1) at Whittier College on Friday at 7 p.m.

Whittier Christian is looking for a bounce-back effort as last week’s 35-28 loss to Cantwell Sacred Heart. Heralds running back Grant Escobar excelled for the injured Joel Rhone, rushing for 463 yards and five touchdowns on 91 carries. Rhone, who has practiced all week, is expected to play tonight. Despite completing just nine of 24 attempts for 121 yards last week, Heralds quarterback Stephen Anderson’s overall numbers (118-of-175 for 1,453 yards and 14 scores) still look impressive. Anderson’s main target is Cameron Stanley, who has 42 receptions for 635 yards and seven touchdowns.

Chris Cornell (350 yards, five touchdowns on 41 carries) and Omar Younger (335 yards and three scores on 28 attempts) lead a Maranatha ground attack that averages 215 yards per game while quarterback Andrew Elfers has tossed for 1,321 yards and 14 scores.
