There’s little question the top area boys basketball game tonight and maybe of this entire week will be played at 7 when Daily News’ No. 4-ranked Whittier High School (12-7 overall, 2-0 in league) travels to No. 3-ranked La Serna (11-5, 2-0) in a key Del Rio League showdown.
Both teams split the regular-season series last year en route to a co-league championship.
What’s La Serna coach Mike Lowe going to dial up tonight
La Serna enters red hot, having won 11 of its last 12 games and is coming off a 70-50 win at Pioneer on Wednesday in which junior forward Aaron Valdes went off for a career-high 36 points, 19 rebounds (eight offensive), five steals and four assists.
Whittier’s Willie Pittman skies for a rebound
Whittier also enters tonight’s affair with some momentum, having won 5 of 6 and 8 of 10. On the night Valdes torched Pioneer, Whittier’s Gary Matthews also posted a stellar effort.
Matthews finished with 34 points and five assists in Whittier’s 91-64 win over visiting El Rancho.
The only thing that can make this game better is a large crowd. Please go out and support your side.
