WDN 13: Back-markers mixing it up, but leaders are still La Habra and St. Paul

Here is this week’s area rankings:
Rankings are with previous rank and record.

1. (1) La Habra (4-3) — The Highlanders, as expected, continue to dominate the Freeway League. Buena Park comes calling this week, but expect more of the same.
2. (2) St. Paul (6-1) — The Swordsman rebounded from the lost to Chaminade by blitzing Cathedral. Serra and St. Francis are next and St. Paul needs at least a split to earn a playoff spot. Can they do it?
3. (3) La Serna (6-1) — The Lancers made enough plays to hold off El Rancho last week. They’ll need a better effort to slowdown hard-charging Santa Fe.
4. (5) La Mirada (4-4) — The Mats, riding a three-game winning streak, are up to third in the Suburban. They take a week off before facing rival Mayfair next week.
5. (6) Whittier Christian (5-3) – The Heralds, who are idle this week, showed they are a player in the Mid-Valley after beating previous No. 1 Maranatha.
Others: 6. (7) Santa Fe (3-4); 7 (4) ;California (5-2); 8. (8) El Rancho (4-3); 9. (9) Cantwell (4-3); 10. (11) Montebello (4-3); 11 (10) Schurr (1-6); 12. (13) Pioneer (1-6); 13. (12) Whittier (3-4).

The Swordsmen should be rank #1. St.Paul should switch league w/ Serra!!!

  • In all fairness

Every La Habra trouncing of an ultra-weak freeway league team should count for NOTHING. La Habra should not be included in the pool of potential area #1 selectees, by reason of non-competition.

In my humble opinion, each and every one of La Habra’s league games is the equivalent of a bye week. So when a pollster is pondering the Highlanders’ status, that whole team should be simply dismissed with the words “did not play.”

@ both of you St. Paul homers, St. Paul won’t even make playoffs, maybe have a chance at beating Harvard Westlake and that’s a slim one! You have no size, speed, your just not good, how could you have confidence saying things like this on here! Don’t you feel dumb after you hit submit? Just asking! You don’t belong in that league/division! They should take you and Catherdal out of that league and put La Habra and another deserving team in there that can compete not just be a roll over game or bye week team! Cause that’s what St. Francis just thought of you when you played Chaminade, that Chaminade had a bye! You would be perfect in LH’s league and division! Villa Park would smash on you and you would like it cause it would come from an Ancich haha… St. Paul sucks! They would lose or play tough games to both Santa Fe and La Serna!

How should St. Paul be ranked #1 when they got BLASTED by Chaminade in their only legit test of the season???

    That’s ridiculous.

On the other hand, I see where “In all fairness” is coming from. La Habra MUST be moved out of the Freeway League ASAP (the next league realignment). Their demolition of teams in that league from week to week is becoming a joke. I’m not saying they won’t win CIF if they get moved to a different league, what I am saying is they will continue to be a #1 seed going into CIF if they are never challenged in league play & IMO, that is completely unfair.

    To Ron Hernandez:
You are an idiot…..St Paul can’t even win the mission League, how can they even compete in the Serra league you neophite. Every Serra league team would demolish St paul.

First win the Mission league and then claim that you compete in D1. The only team that could compete in D1 is Chaminade, and we saw what they did to the lowly swordsmen.
