Roundup Highlights: Lambrecht leads Cal over Pioneer

BOYS BASKETBALL
Del Rio League
California 83, Pioneer 50

California (11-6, 1-0) was led by Matt Lambrecht with 25 points, while Andrew Garber and Chris Ortiz each had 10.
Roberto Campos added 10 points and 12 assists and Jonathan Garcia-Castillo had seven rebounds.
Josh Fitten had 14 points for Pioneer (6-11, 0-1).

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Del Rio League
Whittier 66, La Serna 33

Whittier opened league play by routing La Serna after opening up a 31-18 halftime lead.
Yazmin Acosta scored 23 points and Jaena Magana had 13 points and four rebounds.
Amber Munoz scored 12 points for the Cardinals.
Whittier improved to 15-2 overall and 1-0 in league play.
Freeway League
La Habra 52,
Sunny Hills 49

After being outscored 23-10 in second quarter and trailing 30-19 at halftime, the Highlanders (13-5, 1-1) railled in the second half for the victory.
Allyson O’Brien led La Habra with 19 points, while Kayla Judkins added 12 points and Stephanie Francisco had eight points.
Madison Cruz had a game-high 20 points and Alyssa Simmons had 16 points for Sunny Hills.
GIRLS SOCCER
Del Rio League
California 3, Pioneer 0

The Condors sent an early message to the rest of the Del Rio League as California (4-8-2, 1-0) easily handled the Titans (9-4-0, 0-1), who were ranked No. 8 in the latest CIF-SS Division
5 poll.
“We opened league on a positive note and especially to knock off the eighth-ranked team in our division made it that much better,” said California coach Brian Bordier.
California got goals from senior forward Brianna Ramirez, sophomore midfielder Lizzie Ayson and senior midfielder Bella Aguilar.
Also playing an outstanding game was goalie Briann Banda.
California scored its first goal in the fifth minute when Ramirez scored unassisted as she chipped the ball over Pioneer goalie Alex Robles from about 18 yards out.
Fifteen minutes later, sophomore midfielder Ayson scored her unassisted goal on a direct kick from about 25 yards out to give the Condors a 2-0 lead.
Aguilar scored the final goal on an assist by Liz Ortiz in the 35th minute.
