LA MIRADA – La Mirada High School running back Johnny Hills started his senior season on an impressive note Friday.
Hills, who also plays defensive back, ran for 208 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries in the Matadores’ 55-28 Week 0 victory over St. Paul. He also played a key role in the passing game, catching two passes for 61 yards and a TD.
All three of Hills’ touchdowns came on big plays. He scored on runs of 80 and 72 yards and also caught a 58-yard scoring pass from Matadores quarterback Gerry Myres.
“It was good,” Hills said of his opening-night performance. “I told my offensive line before the game that if you have a good game, I will have a good game. Throughout the game, they led me to the end zone a few times.
“It was a good win against St. Paul. Hopefully, we can stay on track.”
Hills excelled last year as a junior, rushing for 1,003 yards and 11 touchdowns. He hopes for an even better senior season.
