HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL NOTEBOOK: El Rancho takes a break before league

El Rancho High School ended the nonleague portion of its schedule Friday with a tough 28-27 loss to Clovis East.

The defeat snapped a two-game winning streak for the Dons (3-2), who broke the 50-point barrier in those two victories against Bell Gardens (52-28) and Montebello (57-48).

Dons quarterback Joey Sanchez rushed for 139 yards and three touchdowns in the loss to Clovis East. Running back Johnny Garcia added 144 yards and a score.

Though El Rancho posted 400 yards in total offense, it was hurt by turnovers.

“We put the ball on the ground five times,” El Rancho coach Vinnie Lopez said. “We weren’t executing like we normally do. We played a little sloppy. We are working on it.”

The Dons, who have a bye this week, will look to regroup as they prepare for their Del Rio League opener against California on Oct. 5 at El Rancho.

Fireworks in the Del Rio League will be brought to u by the Sanchez Garcia tandem! It was really uncharacteristic to get in the red zone and fail to score on 3 ocassions otherwise that’s Another 50 point ball game.

Speaking about fireworks, our next game with Cal is Homecoming. And El Rancho always puts on a great fireworks display. The overall presentation is fantastic. Hopefully everyone from our ER Nation can make it. GO DONS!

El Rancho should have never lost to Clovis. The team has to cut down on those turnovers, on offense.. The defense did look a lot better.

    See everyone at HC, Chow!

Hey to anyone in the know, is ERs Ryan #1 playing against Cal? Heard he was out with a foot injury.

  • Nonetheless

Let’s say The Ranch had one less turnover and had won the game…the players might start thinking that coughing the ball up 4 times isn’t so bad. I see the loss as a blessing in disguise, a blessing that the preseason is designed to provide.

Nonetheless,…. youre right! Lets win at homecoming.

  • Ranch

@ anony, bad ass Ryan R #1 will play against Cal. He is a ranch-hand as his father and mom. Nothing could keep him away.

To all ER Fans, Joey Sanchez interviewed yesterday with Fox sports. The interview will air in about two weeks.

Joey dont count me out Sanchez and Johnny Bush Garcia are the two headed monster. However # 15 Javier Carrillo is a play-maker. This kid will just get better as the season goes on.
