MONTEBELLO – Jose Estrada scored 30 points to lead Cantwell Sacred Heart High School to a dominating 77-46 victory Wednesday over St. Paul.

The host Cardinals captured the Camino Real League crown outright and finished the regular season 18-8 overall and 9-1 in league.

Next week’s CIF-Southern Section Division 4A playoffs await both Cantwell and St. Paul (14-12, 7-3). Playoff pairings will be announced on Sunday.

Cardinals coach George Zedan expressed happiness as his players cut down the nets after Wednesday’s contest.

“I give credit to our coaches and to our kids,” Zedan said. “St. Paul did a good job the first time we played them. They scouted us really well. Our kids knew it would be a tough battle.

“The difference (in Wednesday’s game) was that we had Jose Estrada.”

St. Paul won the first meeting against the Cardinals, who were missing Estrada for that game.

The Cardinals now focus their attention toward the CIF playoffs.

“We’re No. 4 in our division,” Zedan said. “Our division is very, very competitive. We hope to duplicate a trip to the finals.”

Paul Telles scored 16 points to pace the Swordsmen while Josiah Corona added 10.

Balsa Dragovic recorded 13 points for Cantwell.

Cantwell raced to a 42-23 halftime lead. Estrada paced the Cardinals by scoring 20 points during the first half.

Telles led the Swordsmen with 12 points in the first half.
