The three area wrestling teams participating in the CIF-Southern Section Dual Meet Championships on Saturday experienced a case of one-and-done.

California, Montebello and Schurr high schools all lost in the first round of their respective division tournaments.

The Condors, who went unbeaten in the Del Rio League, lost to Downey 69-3 in the Division 4 event at the University of Antelope Valley in Lancaster. Downey was an at-large entry from the San Gabriel Valley League.

Montebello and Schurr participated in the Division 5 tournament at Glenn High in Norwalk.

The unbeaten Almont League champion Spartans lost 34-33 to Western, an at-large team from the Empire League. Schurr entered as the No. 4 seed.

Montebello, the Almont’s second-place team, fell 48-28 to Mission Valley League champion Arroyo. The Oilers, who had a 4-1 league record, qualified as an at-large entry.

“It was a good battle,” Montebello coach Robert Ferra said of his team’s match against the Knights. “They started with four quick pins on us. We kept battling back and forth. They got two pins in the end. They’re just a little stronger in the lower weights and we were a little stronger in the upper weights. Arroyo is a tough school.”

A quick start lifted Arroyo, which took an early 24-0 lead.
