Annual La Habra-La Mirada nonleague football game figures to be a good one

La Mirada and La Habra high schools have played each other the past four years in nonleague football. The teams will square off again in the 2013 campaign, on Sept. 6 at La Mirada.

This has the potential to be the game of the year in the area. The host Matadores have returning, among others, wide receiver Dallis Todd and linebacker/tight end Tyler Luatua. Todd is verbally committed to Oklahoma. Luatua told this newspaper Wednesday he has planned trips to Ohio State, Notre Dame and Alabama. He has been offered by just about everyone.

La Habra has back defensive tackle Greg Gaines, who has committed to Boise State, and has in offensive lineman Toa Lobendahn, a transfer from Lakewood High who is committed to USC.

La Mirada was 9-2 in 2012, La Habra went 8-4.

La Habra owns a 3-1 record over the Matadores since 2009. The Highlanders won the first three by respective scores of 54-13, 23-17 and 28-19. La Mirada finally won 45-27 in 2012.
