Palmer puts on another stellar show

Senior quarterback Frankie Palmer befuddled Westlake’s defense all night Thursday in La Serna’s wild 38-35 nonleague victory at Cal High.
Out of the Lancers’ Wing T offense, Palmer ran for 113 yards and a touchdown and passed for 162 yards and two more scores. He had scrambles for 22, 18 and 19 yards, and he simply outran Westlake’s defense late in the first half on a seven-yard TD run.
“Some of us have grown accustomed (to Palmer’s ability),” said La Serna coach Margarito Beltran. “He’s a football player.”
Senior Joel Viera also had a great game for the Lancers, but on the other side of the ball. Viera recovered a fumble deep in Westlake territory in the first quarter to set up a touchdown, and returned an interception inside the 5-yard line in the third quarter to set up another. In the fourth quarter, Viera sacked Warriors quarterback Malik Henry to force a punt.
“His performance speaks for itself,” said Beltran, who moved Viera from safety to linebacker before the game. “He stepped up and had a very good game for us.”
