Rakocevic impresses in Division 4 rout of Bakersfield Christian

Six-foot-ten junior post Gligorije Rakocevic had one of his best games of the season in Cantwell-Sacred Heart’s 77-30 rout of visiting Bakersfield Christian on Wednesday. His 16 points were the fourth-most he’s scored this year, and he grabbed seven rebounds before giving way to Cantwell’s reserves in the third quarter. Rakocevic scored several times after offensive rebounds, and his aggressive play sent him to the foul line six times.

“He was getting touches and he was finishing,” said Cardinals coach George Zedan. “We’re tough to beat when he gets touches.”

The victory advanced CSHM to Saturday’s second round of the CIF Southern California Division 4 regionals, where they’ll face Village Christian at Whittier High. Tipoff is 6 p.m. Village Christian beat Windward 71-67 in Saturday’s CIF-SS Division 4A final.

Also Wednesday, La Mirada went on the road and upset Central Section Division 3 champion Fresno 68-57. The Matadores improved to 22-10 and will visit No. 2 seed Cathedral at 6 p.m. Saturday in the Division 3 second round.
