Desert is no oasis for the Condors

Cal’s baseball team has suddenly cooled off at the Coachella Valley Tournament, suffering three consecutive losses.
The Condors opened with a 2-0 loss to Palm Desert, ranked No. 5 in the CIF-SS Division 3 poll, then allowed an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh in a 3-2 loss to Burbank Burroughs. On Tuesday, Cal lost to Cathedral City 8-5, and has seen its record fall to 6-4.
“The desert sun as not been kind to the Condors,” Cal coach Tony Nieto said Wednesday morning.
The tournament will conclude for Cal today with a 2 p.m. game against La Quinta. Ruben Pinedo will get the start on the mound.
Next week, the Condors will return to Del Rio League play Wednesday at home against El Rancho. Cal is ranked No. 6 in this week’s Division 4 poll.
