Cal, Santa Fe share first place in Del Rio League

The baseball teams from Cal High and Santa Fe share first place in the Del Rio League following very different victories Wednesday.
Cal scored a 10-0 victory over El Rancho, paced by six shutout innings from junior Daniel Alvarez. The right-hander struck out 10 batters, and Fermin Beza drove in three with a double and a home run. Santa Fe needed 12 innings to beat La Serna on the road, 2-0. Starter Martin Serna and closer Eddie Fournier shut down La Serna’s offense, and Fournier earned the victory with four brilliant innings. He also followed Tony Olivares’ RBI double in the top of the 12th with an RBI single to extend the Chiefs’ lead.
The Condors (8-4, 2-0) will visit Whittier on Friday. Santa Fe (5-6, 2-0) will visit El Rancho on Friday but will be the designated home team.
