Cal’s bats come to life vs. visiting La Habra

Brigid Ruiz and Trisha Trujillo each had three hits to jump-start Cal’s struggling offense Tuesday in a 9-0 victory over visiting La Habra.
Ruiz, the No. 9 hitter in the Condor lineup, delivered a pair of two-run doubles to give Cal a 4-0 lead and added a single in the sixth. Trujillo singled twice in her first two at-bats, then hit a three-run home run in the sixth off La Habra freshman Janelle Rodriguez.
Tuesday’s offensive outburst was a welcomed sight for Cal coach Jim Kruse, who had seen his team go through a prolonged offensive drought.
:Our No. 9 hitter went 3 for 3,” said Kruse. “That was huge.”
Rodriguez pitched six innings and allowed 10 hits. Senior Taylor Pierce will pitch next week’s Freeway League opener against Fullerton.
“(Rodriguez) did a nice job for us,” said La Habra coach Frank McCarroll. “We want to get her as many opportunities to pitch as we can.”
